| If you're just playing for fun, I don't see a problem with it. But many tournaments and other organized golf events will employ a "one-ball" rule. Meaning you use the same ball throughout the hole, no switching. You can switch balls on the tee box though, just not while it is in play.
I know that some balls will feel better than others, but I'm not sure design-wise why, so I'll leave your second question to someone more knowledgable. |
