Doug LaBelle, a PGA Tour member from Mt. Pleasant, Mich., captured the final spot in qualifying yesterday for the Sony Open in Hawai'i, winning on the second hole of a six-way playoff.
LaBelle (36-32) was the fourth to earn a spot in the first full-field PGA Tour event of the season with his playoff victory at Makaha Resort. There were 64 golfers vying for the four spots.
Alex Aragon was the top qualifier. The pro from San Diego, shot 32-34—66 for a 6-under-par round.
Spencer Levin (35-32), a Nationwide Tour member, and Japanese pro Mitsuhiro Tateyama (34-33) claimed the next two spots.
