Delasin survives, Rosales cut again in Sybase Classic

Dorothy Delasin finished with her second even-par- round of 72 after rain washed out play last Saturday in the Sybase Classic presented by ShopRite at the Upper Montclair Country Club in the shadow of New York City and was in 32nd position going into the final round in the event that has been cut short to 54 holes.

Her World Cup winning partner Jennifer Rosales finished with a five-over-par 77 to go with her opening round even-par-72 and failed to make the cut for the second week in a row. Delasin had also failed to make the cut alongside Rosales in the previous weekends Michelob Ultra Open in Williamsburg, Virginia.

Mexico’s Lorena Ochoa who is No.1 on the tour at this stage made her move to grab top stop on the leaderboard with a 5-under-par 67 which, coupled with her opening round 68, gave her a two-day total of 9-under-par 135,

A third straight win at the Sybase Classic, Ochoa could become the first player since Annika Sorenstam in 2005 to win the same tournament three consecutive times. Sorenstam who showed the way at the end of the first round with a 5-under-par 67 just two days after announcing her retirement at the end of the LPGA season fired a one-over-par 73 and dropped to seventh place, five shots behind Ochoa.

Teresa Lu and Sophia Gustafson currently share second place at 7-under 137 and will join Ochoa off the first tee in the final round of the rain-shortened 54 hole event.

Delasin had her big moment when she turned in an eagle on the par four, 16th hole after an earlier birdie on the 11th but it all went to waste with bogeys on the 9th, 14th and 17th holes which put her nine shots off the lead.
