Exclamation Annika Sorenstam Golf Profile

Birth: October 9, 1970
Nationality: Swedish
(U.S. Citizenship)

Turned Professional: 1992
Current Tour: LPGA Tour (joined 1994);
Life member of Ladies European Tour

Background:
After a brief try at tennis as a youngster, Annika Sorenstam picked up a golf club and started swinging toward her future. She credits her parents and her younger sister, Charlotta (Lotta) – also a tour member - with inspiring her to achieve. As an Amateur, she participated on the Swedish National Team (1987-1992) was World Amateur Champion (1992), runner-up at the U.S. Women’s Amateur and was the second lowest amateur at the U.S. Women’s Open. During her years at the University of Arizona, she won seven college titles in addition to being 1991-1992 All-American. Before joining the tour, her LPGA earnings were already more than $47,000.

Professional Career Bio:
Annika currently has recorded 82 professional wins, including 68 on the LPGA. Her record breaking rounds not only break LPGA records set by others, but she continues to break even her own previous records. In 2005 alone she: became the first LPGA player to win the same major three consecutive years (McDonald’s LPGA Championship), tied the LPGA record for most consecutive events won (set by Nancy Lopez in 1978), became the Solheim Cup’s all-time points earner, became the only LPGA player in history to win the Rolex Player of the Year Awards, the Vare Trophy and the ADT Official money list title five times, set an LPGA record (breaking her own previous) of playing fourteen straight rounds in the 60’s. In addition to her LPGA awards, Annika has won numerous others including seven ESPY awards, the 1995 Swedish Athlete of the Year, Golf Writers Association of America’s Female Player of the Year (1995, 1997, 2000-2005) and Associated Press Female Athlete of the Year (2003-2005). She just finished her first book, Golf Annika’s Way and likes to relax (when she can!) to by cooking, listen to music and playing other sports. She currently lives in Nevada.
