There are no volunteer positions for thru boards this year, these usually show who is in the next group (and their current score) coming up to the green. They will be done with electronic signs this year (I'm told).
Also, they are barcoding both the volunteer and volunteer's guest pass so no-shows will not get a discounted week's pass.
On another note, the Barclays WILL be back at Ridgewood next year.
In a couple of months I will post this event. Since there are so many tourneys on so many tours, I try and stay just months ahead of the tour in posting the tourneys. That way, a person would not have to scroll down as far as they would if I did all of them at once.
I like the guys that hold up the sign but I always wonder how sore there arms get?
These people are called Standards Bearers. In the past they usually got a shoulder harness with a little cup on the bottom near the waist where the sign rests.
But as I have seen recently, the signs are quite light, weighing only about 2 pounds. On top of that I see the people leaning/resting on the signs when the players are putting out on the greens- so they get ample breaks.
So official volunteer designation letters went out. We have about 29 people assigned to the 18th, as few as 5 on pratice day (Tues) but as many as 25 for the weekend. That's a lot of people which is great (allows for a full lunch hour and breaks).
Not much else to add. They still are looking for volunteers so please sign up.
Article in today's Star Ledger said 2010 is to be back at Ridgewood CC and 2011 is to be at Plainfield CC in Edison. Good to hear it's staying in NJ. I just hope it doesn't flee back to Westchester in 2012! If this year is a hit then maybe back at Liberty National again in 2012?
