Among the drivers others have mentioned you might want to look at the Ping G5, for many mid-handicappers such as yourself it is really good, two of my friends, an 8 and a 10 hav the G5 and love it

Go to a golf shop where you can get on a launch monitor.......they'll check your swing speed and a few different things and recommend a few different shafts. Pretty much all the high end drivers(Callaway, Ping, Titleist, etc.) are close in quality, so you just need to find one of them that sets up to your eye. The most important thing for you to do is get the right shaft to suit your swing. I did the launch monitor a couple weeks back and went from a firm flex to a stiff Proforce V2 and it was instantly noticeable in my driving. About 20 yards longer and straight up the pipe............

A good cheap driver is the RAM FX9 that feels nice and goes straight with a forgiving head.

A friend of mine uses this driver, even though he is only a relatively new golfer, he hits the ball really well off the tee with this.

You will be better off spending a few hours at your biggest golf store, taking as much time as you can hitting each one.

Even though there are loads of fantastic drivers out there, not all of them will suit you and your swing characteristics.

Its probably the most expensive single club in the bag, you might as well try a few before parting with your cash.
