905R Not Impressed

Well I bought the 905R about 6 months ago and from the very start I didnt feel like I was getting the most out of this club.

I always felt like I was getting more distance from my old driver. The 905R might have been a bit more forgiving, but that was about its only saving grace for me.

I would have stuck with it for another year or so, but recently the head has developed a rattle, and the pros at my club have sent it back to titleist for me. 99% that they will send me a new driver instead of repairing this. If the rattle was in the shaft that would have been an easy fix.

Consequently, when the new driver arrives I will be selling it or part-exing it against a replacement.

At the moment the 983k has been regripped with the new multicompound golf pride grip (damn good grips) and is in the bag. It is a degree lower than the 905R at 9.5 being 8.5.

I will always keep the 983k for the opportunity to use a different driver if the mood takes me, but as for a new main driver I am a little unstuck.

All the new drivers seem to be coming out in the square shape. Whilst there are some advantages, like straighter shots etc, there is no distance benefit and it has all the wrong smells of a fad to me - so I will be giving these a wide berth.

The pros I buy all my clubs and equipment from have recomended that the R7 425 tp would be the best buy for me, so now I have to be patient until one of the demo days are scheduled near me and then I can go and have one custom fit.

With the 905R gone, that makes 3 drivers in my lifetime that have died over a couple of seasons each. It goes to prove that its vitally important to have the right shaft for your swing speed.

I am only really disappointed insofar as that I love titleist drivers, but for me the 905 didnt bring anything new to the table and in fact for me felt like a backwards step compared to the 983.

I am also in the market for a new 3 wood but thats a whole other nightmare!

yeah i really wasnt impressed with the 905R, it definitely seemed weaker than my 905S but just a tad more forgiving, last summer i was in the market for a new driver and hit the Nike SQ tour with a blue diamana shaft, the same one tiger uses. i didnt gain any distance over my 905S but the consistency i get from it is great. i actually lost a couple mph's off my clubhead speed but the ball speed is the same, regardless until the new driver comes out this summer, im off the 905R
