| Kingston amongst early leaders James Kingston set the early clubhouse target at three under par with an opening round of 69 in the Mercedes-Benz Championship at Golf Club Gut Lärchenhof in Cologne, Germany.
Last year Lee Westwood set the pace with an opening 61 but conditions were much tougher this time around, with little run on the fairways and penal rough.
South Africa’s Kingston opened with a birdie at the 362 yard par four, and moved to two under when he picked up another shot at the fifth.
A bogey at the 439 yard sixth was cancelled out with a birdie at the 583 yard par five seventh although Kingston dropped back to one under for the day when he bogeyed 12.
But he fought back to birdie the par five 15th and the 437 yard par four 17th to reach the clubhouse one shot ahead of Damien McGrane.
Kingston said: "I had a few chances and I probably could have done a bit better, but overall I'm extremely happy with three under par. Source |

| Finch off to a flyer in Cologne Richard Finch compiled a magnificent opening round 66 to storm into the clubhouse lead at the Mercedes-Benz Championship at Golf Club Gut Lärchenhof in Cologne, Germany.
Finch’s six under par effort put him three shots ahead of his closest competitor in the clubhouse and left the world number 146 well placed to challenge over the next three days.
Last year Lee Westwood set the pace with an opening 61 but conditions were much tougher this time around, with little run on the fairways and penal rough compounded by strong winds.
Finch made a blistering start, moving to five under after seven holes.
He picked up shots at the first, second and third before recording his first par at the fourth. But a three at the sixth was followed by a four at the seventh to earn him two more strokes. Source |

| Hansen and Siem set the early pace in Cologne Søren Hansen shot a brilliant second round 67 to set the clubhouse target at four under par 140 in the Mercedes-Benz Championship at Golf Club Gut Lärchenhof in Cologne alongside home favourite Marcel Siem.
The Dane, who will represent Europe in next week’s Ryder Cup, had been one over par overnight after an opening 73.
But he improved on that with a five under par round to climb the leaderboard.
Hansen birdied the first five holes before coming back down to earth with a bogey at the sixth.
Another birdie at the par five seventh saw Hansen complete the front nine in just 31.
A triple bogey six at the par three 11th threatened to spoil his card but he responded with three birdies in a row.
Another birdie at 16 was followed by a bogey at the penultimate hole.
Johan Edfors was also in the clubhouse on three under after a five under 67 today. Source |

| Karlsson leads the way in Cologne Robert Karlsson leads the way at the Mercedes-Benz Championship after a second round 69 left him a shot clear of Jean-François Lucquin.
The Swede’s three under par effort at Golf Club Gut Lärchenhof in Cologne took him to eight under for the tournament at the halfway stage.
Karlsson, a shot off the overnight lead, posted birdies at the third, fifth and seventh in an impressive front nine 33.
The Swede could only manage one birdie at the 13th on the way in and that was erased by a bogey at the par five 15th.
But European captain Nick Faldo will no doubt have been delighted with Karlsson's form ahead of next weekend's Ryder Cup. Source |

| Karlsson maintains progress Robert Karlsson today remained on course to win his first tournament for two years in the Mercedes-Benz Championship in Cologne.
Karlsson has not won since claiming the Deutsche Bank Championship in Hamburg in 2006 but qualified for his second Ryder Cup appearance next week on the back of nine top ten finishes this season - including eighth in the US Masters, fourth in the US Open Championship and seventh in the Open Championship.
The Swede had a great chance to break that winless streak after taking a one-shot lead into today's third round of the €2 million limited-field event at Gut Lärchenhof.
And the 39 year old quickly extended his advantage to three shots on a damp, overcast afternoon with three birdies in the first five holes. Source |

| Karlsson closes in on title Robert Karlsson was today cruising towards a first victory in two years and the perfect Ryder Cup warm-up in the Mercedes-Benz Championship at Golf Club Gut Lärchenhof in Cologne.
Karlsson began the day with a three stroke lead after being handed a one shot penalty at the end of his third round yesterday, when he grounded his putter as his ball moved fractionally on the second green.
The six foot five inch Swede accepted the penalty immediately and clearly had not let the incident affect him as he moved further clear of the field approaching the halfway point of the final round.
A birdie from five feet on the first instantly extended his lead to four strokes before bogeys at the third and fourth cut his advantage to two shots.
However, Karlsson responded in the perfect fashion with a hat-trick of birdies from the fifth to improve to 13 under par, five ahead of England's Richard Finch.
There was more good news for Europe captain Nick Faldo with another team member, Spain's Miguel Angel Jiménez, moving up to a share of fourth place on six under after covering the front nine in 33.
Michael Campbell and Francesco Molinari were tied for third on seven under, with both running out of holes with which to catch Karlsson. |

| Karlsson hits top gear with victory in Cologne Robert Karlsson gave himself and The European Team the perfect boost ahead of The Ryder Cup when he claimed his first victory for two years in the Mercedes-Benz Championship.
Karlsson began the final day with a three stroke lead despite suffering a one shot penalty after his third round yesterday, and carded a closing 71 at Golf Club Gut Lärchenhof in Cologne for a total of 13 under par and two shot victory over Italy's Francesco Molinari.
The six foot five inch Swede had been six clear at one stage but Molinari birdied four holes in a row from the 12th and Karlsson bogeyed the 16th to see his lead cut to just two.
Molinari then left a birdie putt on the 17th agonisingly short of the hole and missed another birdie chance on the last as Karlsson held his nerve to claim the €200,000 first prize.
“It was really good,” he said. Source |
