Harris and Haastrup hold sway at the Hills

England’s Rob Harris exhibited his steadily-growing confidence in the professional arena when he reached the halfway stage of The Dubliner Challenge in Sweden in a share of the lead with Denmark’s Mark Haastrup.

The 22 year old from Lincoln added a 70 to his opening 68 at the Hills Golf Club on the outskirts of Gothenburg to move alongside the 24 year old Haastrup in pole position on four under par 138 after the Dane carded a 68 to go with his opening 70.

The Englishman –brother of European Tour Media Relations Manager Victoria Harris – has been performing steadily in his limited starts on the European Challenge Tour this season but showed he too can more than manage himself under the glare of the professional spotlight.

Two birdies and two bogeys were his only departures from par on the testing Hills Golf Club course in his first 17 holes before he finished in style with a closing birdie four on the 549 yard 18th.

Rain reduces The Dubliner Challenge to 54 holes

England’s Rob Harris and Denmark’s Mark Haastrup will start the final round of The Dubliner Challenge in Sweden in a share of the lead after a flooded course prevented any play on Saturday, reducing the tournament to 54 holes.

Heavy rain flooded the bunkers at the Hills Golf Club on the outskirts of Gothenburg, forcing Tournament Director Mats Lanner to cancel play for the entire day.

He said: “Due to the amount of rainfall we had on Friday night and Saturday morning the course was unplayable.

“The decision was taken to have a proper finish to the tournament on Sunday rather than start and be unable to finish play on Saturday and have to carry over. Therefore we have shortened the tournament to 54 holes.

“The weather forecast for overnight and on Sunday morning is for it to be dry so we are confident of a finish.”

Harris and Haastrup are in pole position to land their maiden victory, with the pair locked at the top of the leaderboard on four under par. Erik Algulin of Sweden is a shot off the pace while Pablo del Grosso of Argentina and Germany’s Benjamin Miarka are tied for fourth place on two under par.
