I am thinking about getting new wedges. For sure a 56° and possibly a 52°. I am interested in your advice as far as a particular manufacturer and why that manufacturer and maybe certain things I should look for when making a choice on wedges. Serious advice or opinions only please. Thanks!

On a side note, I was thinking about the CG15 Zip Groove wedges at one time but heard that after 70 of so shots with it, the secondary zip grooves, as opposed to deeper, wider main grooves, begin to wear quickly and then basically becomes your normal wedge we're all used to. Can someone confirm this? I know Cleveland's website says after 1000 sand shots, the color fades but the laser-milled grooves remain. That may be some lawyer talk there though! Yes, the grooves remain, but are they as effective or effective at all after the 1000 sand shots? For those who have a first hand opinion, please give me your thoughts.

What is Golf, Really?

Golf can best be defined as an endless series of tragedies obscured by the occasional miracle, followed by a good bottle of beer. :)

Golf! You hit down to make the ball go up. You swing left and the ball goes right. The lowest score wins. And on top of that, the winner buys the drinks.

Golf is harder than baseball. In golf, you have to play your foul balls.

If you find you do not mind playing golf in the rain, the snow, even during a hurricane, here's a valuable tip: your life is in trouble.

Golfers who try to make everything perfect before taking the shot rarely make a perfect shot.

The term 'mulligan' is really a contraction of the phrase 'maul it again.'

A 'gimme' can best be defined as an agreement between two golfers... neither of whom can putt very well.

An interesting thing about golf is that no matter how badly you play, it is always possible to get worse.

Golf's a hard game to figure. One day you'll go out and slice it and shank it, hit into all the traps and miss every green. The next day you go out and for no reason at all you really stink. :(

If your best shots are the practice swing and the 'gimme putt', you might wish to reconsider this game.

Golf is the only sport where the most feared opponent is you.

Golf is like marriage: If you take yourself too seriously it won't work, and both are expensive.

The best wood in most amateurs' bags is the pencil.

#10... A below par performance is considered damn good.
#09.... You can stop in the middle and have a cheeseburger and a couple of beers.
#08... It's much easier to find the sweet spot.
#07... Foursomes are encouraged.
#06... You can still make money doing it as a senior.
#05.... Three times a day is possible.
#04... Your partner doesn't hire a lawyer if you play with someone else.
#03... If you live in Florida, you can do it almost every day.
#02... You don't have to cuddle with your partner when you're finished.

And the NUMBER ONE reason why golf is better than sex...

#01... When your equipment gets old you can replace it!

Great Drill for Fixing A High Weak Slice!

This drill is for players that hit high weak slices. The problem stems from a swing fault called "crossing the line." It starts when you try to...

This drill is for players that hit high weak slices. The problem stems from a swing fault called "crossing the line." It starts when you try to increase power by taking an extra long backswing. This causes your arms to swing way past their natural stopping point. When that happens, you cross the line (the clubhead pointed right of the target at the top of your swing). This fault causes inconsistent contact and misses that go high and wide to the right.

Many players would benefit from stopping at what would be their three quarters position. If that doesn't work try using a Nerf football when you practice your backswing. Wedge the football between your elbows. Try stopping it from falling out by keeping your elbows together as you make your backswing. Make sure you complete your backswing with a full wrist cock. That's what gets you parallel at the top, not your arms.

If you lift your right elbow while the football is wedged in there, it will fall out and you'll lose power. You need to keep your elbows together at the top and pointed parallel to the target line for a powerful top position.

When you finish give the Nerf back to junior. lol :)

My question is I can hit a ball fairly far driver and iron, all my "exp." friends say I'm pretty good for a beginner but don't say much else, my first golf match is coming up real soon and I need to know a couple things,

1. When hitting (driver, wood and iron) how can I get the ball off the ground, like I said I can fit a good 75 - 125 sliding distance at my best but I know if it gets some air it'll go much farther.
2. Accuracy, I've always had trouble in this field I'm getting better but defiantly not for a real match.
3. How do I know which clubs to use and when.
I'm a big guy and I've learned how to use this to my advantage really well What I need to know is how can I keep consistant throughout my game and practices, sometimes I can hit a good 175 at best and other times It's a swing and a miss (literally) so,
5. How do I stay consistant and,
6. How can I know before I take a swing Im gonna land a solid hit on the ball, and is there any tips for a good clean hit for a guy who is 230 lbs. 6'11" and 16-17.

Thanks for everyone who wil answer I'll try all techniques and which everone works out best will get best answer, if two ppl say the same thing it'll go to the one who described it better.

Thanks

Dear Members
Please allow this letter to introduce myself to those that do not know me, my name is Jonathan Read. I have two daughters and a beautiful wife. I have lived in Campbellsville my whole life as most of you know seeing me at the club as a little kid. Currently I am in the process of becoming a professional golfer and joining the Hooters Tour and the Tar Heel Tour. I am sending this out because I need everyone’s help. Most of you have been very encouraging and I sincerely appreciate it, more than most will ever know. With this big jump from trying to make this dream into reality I am needing more than encouragement. As most of you know turning pro is very costly, and this is were you come in. I am trying to raise enough money so that I can play full time. With your investment it will give me the time and money to practice and play on the Tar Heel Tour and Hooters Tour full time. All investments will be split to 70% to sponsors 30% to me of any prize money earned the first year. Then years after that it will be split 50/50 until 200% of moneys is paid back to sponsors. Any companies that sponsor can have the option of logo being worn while playing. I am also open to any other offers or terms to this for anybody has other ideas to how they want the investment to be worked out. feel free to email me at readjon@hotmail.com

Sincerely,
Jonathan Read

There are many books and websites out there that demonstrate the problems beginners face when learning golf, but many skip over the actual resolutions to those problems. You must realize that the most critical beinners golf instruction is simply to put in enough practice. This is the key factor which will deterine your success as a new player.

Before anything, you need to get yourself a club that is suited to you. Young players will often just borrow their parents clubs. This is not an ideal way for young golfers to learn how to play golf. The reason for this is because clubs go by height. If you dont have the right size club, you can start hitting some bad swings.

It's always a good idea for a new golfer to watch experienced golfers play some rounds. Sometimes it can be difficult for a new golfer to comprehend the rules behind touching the club on the ground, formalitities of a sand trap, or why a rake is sitting there.

A proper swing is essential for a beginner to learn. It can be a good plan to learn the fundamentals of the swing from a more experienced golfer than yourself. Learning the exact technique of a swing by yourself can be hugely frustrating. An experienced player will be able to show you the ropes, help you set up, address, swing, and pick out your faults. The problem with learning by yourself is that even if the swing feels right, it can be very difficult to pick out your own faults.

A lot of beginners actually complete the backswing way too quickly, wrongly thinking that this will improve their shot.

If you want to bring your club back correctly, you need to allow your shoulders to turn and let your hips follow. Your hips also need to start the backswing, and not your hands.

Another thing to remember is that a full follow-through is not required for every type of shot. You need to learn how to follow each of your shots, and this should be a high priority when learning how to play.

It is natural instinct to watch the ball as you strike it. This is a temtation that you must try to avoid. By watching the ball you will actually be stopping short when following through, this can have dramatic effects of your overall shot.

Beginner golfers should realise that practice makes perfect. It's the only truy way to improve your golf game. You need to practice with each and every club to be able to master your golf swing. This can become a mind-numbing thing to do but it will vastly advance your playing ability.

The fire at Shady Canyon Golf Course: "BOB's" hacking in the rough caused a spark that lit the rough ablaze and spread, destroying 12 acres, although no homes were destroyed.

The fire, at the exclusive Shady Canyon Golf Club in Irvine, California, USA, attracted 150 firefighters.

Capt Greg McKeown, from the Orange County Fire Authority, said: "We had firefighters on the ground and attacking the fire on the ridge,"

"We had water dropped from helicopters and water drops from helicopters and hand crews digging a fire line around the edges of the fire."

He added: "Personally, I've never responded to that call before."
