Teeing It Up

I've had it ingrained into my brain that when you make a good shot you should take a divot. Now I watch the golf channel regularly and I can't ever recall seeing the pro's take a divot with their driver. Now the other day when I'm watching I see the pro's on one of these Par 3 holes, the Tee box looked like a street in downtown Bagdad, there hardly was any grass left to shoot off of. Why don't pro's use T's on par 3's, they'd probably still take a divot but not one of those 2 footers I see on the tube.....

I would be willing to bet that most pros do, in fact, use a tee on par 3's. However, I'm sure they don't tee it up much.

The whole reason that you take a divot is because you want to be hitting down on the ball with your irons to allow the grooves on the club to create backspin. If you pick it clean or take a divot before you hit the ball, you are not going to produce as much backspin because you are hitting the ball on the upswing.
