Whats Cookin?

Know there aren't all that many people out banging it around right now but it will warm up sooner or later. Heres some information when your out on the course and the hungry's set in. If your looking for a quick pick me up to get you started or for the back nine, stay away from pop, chips, nutty bars and junk like that, they fill the hole but burn off in 30 seconds and your back where you started. Try these:

Some Super Sport Snacks:
Non-perishable Snacks………………………………… Perishable Snacks
Cold cereal…………………………………………………… Whole-wheat bagels
Hot Cereal……………………………………………………. English muffins
Pretzels ………………………………………………………. Low-fat bran muffins
Reduced-fat microwave popcorn…………………………… Microwave potato
Peanut butter…………………………………………………. Low-fat yogurt
Animal crackers……………………………………………… Thick-crust pizza
Low-fat granola bars…………………………………………. Fresh fruit
Energy bars…………………………………………………… Left-over pasta
Noodle soups…………………………………………………. Juice boxes
Dried fruit……………………………………………………… Nuts
Trail mix

I'm certainly not a health nut, but I am disappointed at what you can buy on the courses around here. They do sell something like Gatorade, but also soft drinks and beer, both of which sell a lot more than the Gatorade. What is sorely lacking is reasonable food. I only know two local places that have more than cheese crackers or Snickers bars on the drink cart. One carries granola bars and the other place carries a specific high energy bar called Tee Time, made for golfers.

I finally reached a point where I started buying granola bars at the grocery and I leave them in the pocket of my bag... two per round. It's become part of my routine to check the bag for food before going to the course and my wife checks the labels to make sure I get something that resembles good food instead of granola covered junk food in disguise. Sometimes I'll also carry bananas.
