| A Links course is essentially a treeless course that runs along the shore line. Traditionally in Scotland the land now occupied by a Links course was considered waste land, too sandy to grow anything on, and barren of any trees. Links courses specialize in long smooth run ups to the green, making it possible to shoot a 60 to 80 yard bump and run, whereas Championship courses (North American) usually protect the front of the green with sand traps.
