Question Lessons

Do you currently take lessons? Did you take them from the get-go or did you decide to get them after some on the course experience? What differences have they made in your game?

I started taking lessons 2 weeks ago after my game started turning to sh*t. So far it's the best money i've spent on golf, i'm hitting straighter and longer already and my short game (under 100 yards) is awesome.
I never realized how psychically demanding golf was until i took lessons and learned to swing properly. I played 27 holes today and i feel like i've been on a torture rack .

I would recommend all high handicaps to take some lessons.

Chief.

If you watch a game, it's fun. If you play it, it's recreation. If you work at it, it's golf.

As a newer golfer (~ 1 year), lessons made a huge difference for me. But not all lessons are created equal...

I didn't get much if anything from the first set of lessons with a certain pro. He talked and joked a lot, which may work for some people, but was mostly distracting for me.

The second pro I tried had a very different style. Low key and all about getting it done. I was able to focus on improving my full swing during the lessons, plus had a clear vision of what to practice between lessons. He also gave me a couple putting tips that affected my score dramatically. Mostly 3-putts became mostly 1- or 2-putts, you do the math.

So yes, I recommend lessons, but choose the pro carefully. Preferably one with a free eval of your swing before the first paid lesson.

I'm thinking of getting lessons. But also thinking of, before that, buying one of these instructional DVDs to help my swing first. I was thinking David Leadbetter but am unsure because I don't have a clue which ones are good/bad!
