Using my GPS for yardage

I'm looking at the 5 feet of snow in the yard and have cabin fever.
So I got to thinking, why not go on Google Earth and find the center of the greens at my favorite course and load the GPS with each hole?

Has anyone else tried this?

well - technically speaking, I suppose it's possible. As long as your GPS will give you distance to the end point... and you can get the coordinates, You could carry it one step further, and add each green as a waypoint, string them along with the 18th as the final stop, and you go hole to hole....

God luck - I hope it works for you....

That's the idea. I load a route and all 18 holes. I've tried Geocaching with great success and had a great time with the family. It also amazed me at how accurate it was. Within 6 feet if I had plenty sky above.

It was a bit of work to load all 18 holes but this is my local club that I go to at least 10 times a season.

I'll be giving the results if we can shake winter away from here

sounds like a good Idea. might just have to walk the coarse with my garmin in hand. Actually the coarse is closed now but I could still walk on the snow and plot it out. Or option B. get a range finder.

No I wouldn't but this is why I said "It was a bit of work to load all 18 holes but this is my local club that I go to at least 10 times a season."

And this is why I also said " I'm looking at the 5 feet of snow in the yard and have cabin fever."

It's an experiment BUT if someone wants to pay me for my time... I may think about it
