Ryder Cup

Ryder Cup

September 22- September 24, 2006.

This biennial event between the U.S. and European golfers takes place this year at Kildare Golf and Country Club in Kildare, Ireland. Europe is the defending champion, having beaten the U.S. 18 ½-9 ½ at Oakland Hills, Mich., in 2004. The Ryder Cup is contested over 28 matches, each worth a point. Players compete against each other, not the course, and the score reflects the number of holes won. The winning player or team receives one point, and each participant receives a ½ point in the event the match is tied after 18 holes. Friday morning there are four four-ball matches, with foursomes in the afternoon. The second day will have foursomes in the morning and four-ball in the afternoon. The final day of the competition features 12 singles matches. The defending team retains possession of the Ryder Cup in the event of a tie (14 points), but each team needs 14½ points for an outright victory. Captain Ian Woosnam’s European team likely will be the sportsbook favorite to retain the Cup. Golf bettors may see the world’s top two players, Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson, on captain Tom Lehman’s U.S. squad, but Europe features better depth and has dominated this event in recent years. With veterans like Sergio Garcia, Jose Maria Olazabal, Colin Montgomerie and Darren Clarke, the Europeans will be tough to bet against at WagerWeb.com.

Ryder Cup - Let's Go USA

I'm getting a bit excited to watch how this weekend pans out! Will Tiger Woods play well? Will the US team get crushed again? How will the conditions affect play, wind, rain etc?

This is really good stuff, can't wait for the first player to tee off!

Team Europe, stronger for me but go USA!!

Team Europe for me is stronger. Some of the competitors love to play in the breeze. Team Usa, for me is not as strong as in past Cups; but we have to check on Furyk and Woods as the couple that could lead their team, that's going to be exciting. Many say, that now it’s Tiger Woods’ turn. Maybe they will take the cup that team Europe has gotten twice in the past two tournaments.

He has emerged as the leader of this U.S. team, a role far too many expected him to take at far too young an age. He did it quietly, letting us first see it a month ago when he called the four rookies and took them to dinner in Akron. He let them pick his brain; he filled theirs. He picked up the tab, too.

Definetively, it's going to be exciting. The conditions, the players and the expectations of golf fans are on fire. It's a most to watch. We will talk after the tournament, don't miss it!!
