2006 Ryder Cup Thoughts...

Well, it was a great spectacle put on by the K club. If anything most people thought the teams were a little unbalanced on paper, and for once this came true.

Although the Americans put up some great fights, David Toms, Tiger, Gentleman Jim, I found the rest of the team a little dissapointing. The Europeans out played the American team this year. It was nice to see true sportsmanship still in the game, the Paul McGinley half was worth sitting in to watch all on its own.

All in all, I thought this competition was played exactly as it should have been, agressive but sporting.

Bring on 2008

I enjoyed it a lot..i just really think the americans should have given better competition..tiger certainly showed up against carlson..and cink versus sergio was simply awesome..the rest of the americans were just so-so in the singles..hope 08 is closer and everything comes down to the wire..=)

More power to both sides..=)

In stroke play on week in, week out tournaments, the American side has proved their talent, often leaving the players from the European side lower on the scoreboard. In other words, I don't doubt their ability to play evenly with the Europeans.

Somehow, when it comes to the team game with no reward but pride on the line, our side lacks the passion of the Europeans. When our side finds that passion, we will compete.

What it might take to help find that passion, I don't know...

While I would probably feel some sort of emotional pride, had the Americans won, the truth is, I thoroughly enjoyed the matches because of the brilliant play, regardless who won.

Agreed, thought the tournament was played in the correct spirit of the game.

What I hate to see is the press that says the Americans would only be motivated if they were paid to be on the team. I bet if you ask any American player who has been on a winning side what some of his most memorable golfing experiences would be, he would reply that the Ryder Cup is very high among them.

I think this is one of the cases of the press getting this completely wrong.

They showed interviews with the players and they want this tournament more than any other (short of majors).

If they are more interested in the money side, why do the best golfers spend all season trying to get enough points to play in this?

G'evening Fitz - We seem to be online at the same time!

Remember - They earn their way onto the team by their performance in tournaments in which they are playing for money. I don't discount for a second that the players want to be on the team. It's the press I would blame for the subject of paying the team members.

Indeed, the fittest survives above all...after the rounds of cat and dogs, the highlight is brought into the open, as open as the press had covered it through black and white. Viva '08!
