| How much does finding the right ball effect someone's game? I mean I average around par but use a different ball every time. I usually just find balls allong the fence and then use them. Would finding the "right" ball for my game improve my game by a stroke or something. I don't get it people shoot a bad shot and then they say it's the balls fault. I believe a good golfer should be able to make any ball work, and finding the "right" ball might improve you by a stroke or less. Shoot you could give me a range ball and I'd get used to it and still be able to make par and sometimes under par. I think it's really what kind of natural tallent someone has that makes people good golfers or not. I remember after my first week of playing golf my uncle (who plays) said damn you are already better than 80% of golfers. I guess my point is, if someone has the naturall abillity then it really shouldn't matter that much what ball you use. I mean I understand having a favorite ball, but don't think it's gonna take many strokes off your game. |

So you are saying Tiger Woods should just use found balls and go play? My god you have a lot to learn.
If that is the case why are there so many different golf balls manufactured? Why did Ernie Els switch from Titleist to Callaway? Was it because he like the look of the Callaway logo better than the Titleist logo? Or maybe he wanted one of those cool Callaway Staff bags?
Do yourself a favor, do some research on golf balls and what they can do for someones game.
Certain balls fit certain golfers swings and the way they hit iron shots. Some guys like more spin, others like less spin.
Playing with one brand of ball allows you to learn how far a full shot goes with each of your irons. This is a very important thing to know, so you are not guessing.Different balls putt differently too, some come off the putter face softer than others. And some guys like less spin, depending on the type of course they play.
BTW did you not know that it is illegal to tee off on the first hole with a Callaway ball then switch to a Titliest of some other brand?
Do some research is all I can say. |

| All I'm saying is I think people put to much emphasis on the golf technology and don't really look at the root of their problems(mechanics, and naturall abillity). I understand different balls do different things but if you get used to one it shouldn't matter what ball it is if you are really good. Of course the pros and better players will use the newest most expensive stuff but I garauntee it doesn't help there game out by any more than a stroke compared to say the best balls 10 years ago. I bet if Tiger Woods had a week to practice with a range ball, and then played in a tournament and did bad, he wouldn't blame it on the ball, but would blame it on himself. And to answer why Els switched from Titelist to Callaway, I'm sure it had everything to do with money. It's illegal to play with 2 different balls when I play? So I'm gonna get arrested? I think what you meant to say is when you play a tournament it is against the rules to switch balls in the middle of it. Thanks for telling me that, I didn't know that before.

| Oh well that is just common sense isn't it? I thought he meant the whole tournament. I'm not gonna switch balls in the middle of the fairway. LOL. |

| Alright after reading the last couple of post I just want to add something. I mean some balls might help your game, with the more spin you might be better with the short game. The distance balls help the distance so i think they would help there. But guys there's no need to argue, all of us have our own opinions and since they are our opinions they can't be right or wrong. And just a word of advice to the topic starter, never ask "best" of anything. My point to that is there can never really be a best to anything like many people and I said before you can preform good w/ something and give it to another person and they can suck w/ it, does that mean that product sucks... no it just means that product wasn't for that person. I hope you guys understand what I mean by saying that.

| I know what you mean man. It seams like every time I post my opinion on something someone jumps on me and acts like it's wrong when it's just an OPINION. You can ask best of some things but you can never do that with golf products. Although I will admit a good debate is fun once in awhile. |

You alone can not determine that, your playing partners or a Rules Official also have to give you the OK to replace your ball.
Then you must replace it with the same brand of ball. In tournament play you are only allowed to use one make of ball. ProV on the first tee, ProV on the last tee. Any events sanctioned by your club, the one ball rule is in place, or it should be.
Best advice you can get is to find a ball you like off the driver and your irons. Also you must like it for putting. Then stick to that ball every time you play. You will learn how far it flies off your irons, how it putts and how it chips. Then you will watch your scores drop as you know exactly what to expect around the greens etc. |
