Smile Practice balls ?

I purchase 300 new Ben Hogan balls which say practice ball on them at a local surplus store for $50. I know I got a great deal when considering the price per ball. I am just a duffer and they seem to be good balls to me. Can someone tell me what a "practice ball" is so I know how proud I really should be of my purchase?

I hate to P on your parade One Way, but I think "Practice Balls" probably fall into the Range Ball category. Their company seconds. They'll give you about 80 % of the performance of a regular ball. If your just starting out, the difference in the performance will be minimal and at that price you won't mind losing a couple. With 300 balls, your going to be playing those suckers for a couple of years. Good Luck

most places you can rent out practice balls, and basically they're the cheapest ones you can get, as you'll lose them.

You got a good deal on those balls. At 16.5 cents each there is nothing wrong with that deal. Basically practice balls are balls that are used at tournaments. All Pro events supply free balls for warm up.
I have seen Pro V Practice balls selling for almost the same price as new in the box Pro V's.
There will be nothing wrong with those balls. Trust me, pros do not want to stand on the range warming up and be hitting balls that only fly 80% of the distance of a normal ball. That is not a good way to warm up.
The only real issue is this. You legally can not use those balls on the course. Mind you, if you are just playing casual golf then do not worry about that. Take a marker and put a line through Practice Ball and play away.
