i wasn't looking for a new ball, but it may have found me anyway... i found a mint Srixon URC the other day, and it made its way into the rotation today because i ran out of Pro-V1's and i wanted to demo the new TaylorMade TP Red i've been saving (another mint find).
only hit one shot with the TP Red... i hit a long left bomb on the first hole; i was sure made the road (OB left). so i hit the Z-URC as a provisional. i lost it in the sun, but it felt good.
so i get up to my usual driving yardage and found the Taylormade a foot shy of danger... good news #1. chipped out to the shortgrass and made a bogey.
THEN... i went looking for the Srixon, i thought it felt a little right-center, but like i said i never saw it. until i did.... 15+ yards longer than my typical good drives, right-center of the fairway in very good position. at first i assumed it was someone elses ball. i often hit it 300+ yards this time of year on this course. but never 330. (no fairway sprinkler system makes it more a runway than fairway some days. i usually drive in the 255-285 range on the majority of fully-watered courses)
i was skeptical about the Srixon distance, i figured it would feel like a stone around the green. but i put it in play the next hole.
i am now a fan of Srixon's UR line, i guess, because i played the next 17 holes with it with very good results. this course does not lend itself to hitting the greens (very small and hard; very few elevated), so i did not get a fair assesment of full-shot approach potential.
BUT the URC performed AWESOME in regards to workability and distance, and very respectable in chipshot dynamics. a little firmer of the clubface than i'm used to, but i did not mind as much as it thought i would... probably because i got around in 80 (67/107 course/slope). i can hardly wait to take it to my favorite course for the real test. BONUS: the URC seems to be remarkably durable. for a high-end ball.
i really like the way the URC rolls of the putter, seems truer than the pro-v1, but lacks that buttery feel. comparable to the bridgestone 330 in my limited experience. i made several putts today i've been missing recently. probably not the ball...
my main basis for comparison the the Pro-v1 and 1x to a lesser extent (dont like the ball flight of the 1x).
now the Q's:
anyone else want to chime in good/bad about the Srixon Z-URC?
How about Z-URS? i looked at the box and website, and it looks good. i'm looking for some other peoples opinions.
i see there is a thread already about the e6. not a fan, but mostly because of the lower launch. good ball though.
what about the Taylormade TP's (Black/Red). i've tried the red, but i'm curious about the TP Black now that i enjoyed a round with a 'firm' ball.
the Bridgestone 330/330-s?
any other suggestions/comments/reviews along these lines would be appreciated and/or reciprocated
oh, and my swing speed was measured in the low-mid 90's mph (3-wood, steel-shaft) this afternoon. but i swing easier off a mat and i was tired, so i wouldn't be suprised if i hit 3 digits(mph) regularly.
