Courses You Play

I usually take a trip out to Los Angeles in the winter time to play some golf and this is the course that I like to play . Was just there in November for a week . Plan on going again next February . As it says below this place has hosted 3 L.A. Opens back in the 1930's . The price is right and it's a great place to golf .

Griffith Park, Harding and Wilson Municipal Golf Courses (Los Angeles): Though golf made its debut in Griffith Park in 1914, today's facility dates to a 1923 expansion to 36 holes by the legendary designer George Thomas — a project that the philanthropic Thomas reportedly augmented from his own pocket when city funding ran short. The site of three late-1930s L.A. Opens, as well as the longtime home of 1961 PGA champion Jerry Barber, Griffith Park once ranked among the world's finest period municipal golf facilities. Today, after decades of ill-advised modifications (e.g., Harding course's now-removed "water bunkers") and the building of the Golden State Freeway, it remains among the most historic.

Of the top golf courses in Los Angeles, Griffith Park Golf Course is one of the better public golf courses. Located at 4730 Crystal Springs Drive in Los Angeles, this beautiful park offers two 18-hole golf courses in a glorious park setting. The course is laid out efficiently presenting a great enough challenge to the golfer. There is also a chipping area, and a great putting green. Green fees are reasonable, and parking is plentiful, however with it being a public course, getting tee times is a tad difficult. There are many San Diego golf courses to choose from. I usually played at Arrowood Golf Club and at Pala Mesa Resort Golf Course. Both have excellent climate and beautiful environment. It truly satisfies all golfers of different levels. They also offer affordable and reasonable golf packages.

I play 1 las Vegas course (Desert Rose) on a regular basis, but only because it's close to my home. That, and the $9.50 green fees are easy on the bank account. It's not fancy. It's just a well used golf course, and not an easy one to play at that. In the 1960s it was a PGA tour stop, and I think it was even used in the LV Invitational during the 1990s. A lot of tourist play there. There are some others I play in the Vegas Valley on a semi regular basis. I don't care where I play. When traveling if I see a "Golf" sign, I will pull over and play. Doesn't matter if it's private, public, or a run down muni. If I have the time, and can afford it I am playing. I once got on the private course in Newport Beach, CA for $60, and $20 tip to counter guy in the pro shop. The threesome I was put with kept asking me if I was member. I kept telling them "today I am". My three favorite courses that I get to play once every couple of years is Spy Glass, Pebble, and Bandon. Of the three Spy Glass is the tougher one to play for me.
