Just played an incredible public course 60 miles north of NYC. Centennial Golf Club is a 27 hole facility carved out of some of the most beautiful countryside you could imagine in Putnum County N.Y. The course was designed by Larry Nelson and is probably considered his best work yet. The property was originally a horse farm overlooking a variety of lakes, resevoirs and streams. No commercial or residential buildings to be seen from the course. The three nines, the Meadows, Lakes and Fairways, range from 3516 to 3599 yards at the tips. The slope ratings depending on the combination of nines you play range from 136 to 145. These are for real hills. The greens that are in great condition were challenging in everyway: fast, huge to suttle breaks, big slopes and large for the most part. Depending on the time of year, greens fees including cart range from $64 to $100 a round. A bargain based on the quality of the course, staff and facility overall. If you are in the New York City area, Centennial is worth the drive. |
