Background:
Unlike other young golfers in this modern age of golf prodigies, Henrik Stenson did not grow up with a club in hand and a ready made father/coach/mentor. Certainly to his credit, the elder Stenson has supported his son’s endeavors, be he himself only picked up the game after his son had already been playing for several years. Henrik Stenson, was introduced to the game by a friend and was hooked. By eighteen he was playing for the Swedish Amateur Boys team and quickly moved up to Amateur Nationals. Upon turning pro, his Amateur handicap was 4.
Professional Career Bio:
A run of impressive finishes in the 2005 season helped Stenson to climb to eighth on The Order of Merit. A disappointed Stenson was visible at Scandinavian Masters by Carlsberg when he was defeated on home turf by Australian Mark Hensby in play-off. A delightful third place finish in the World Golf Championships – American Express Championship (just behind Tiger Woods and John Daly) also marks his career highlights of 2005. He won his second European Tour title in2004 when he captured The Heritage at Woburn to add to his previous success in the 2001 Benson and Hedges International Open, and added those victories to his record from 2000, where he won the Rankings in 2000 with the record of eight top ten finishes including three titles.
