Thumbs up Hello everyone

Hello everyone!

I've been playing for 5 weeks now (3x 9hole par3 and 2x 18holes) and I'm thoroughly enjoying the game and the people who play it.

After 25 years of martial arts (which I'm still doing) I thought I'd take up a stress-free pastime. I've had one lesson already, which determined fairly good body mechanics (mainly due to my martial arts) and has really helped no-end thanks to a very patient Pro.
Due to being 6ft 1in and powerfully built I can generate a fast club speed, which has seen looong drives and long second shots using my much loved V12+ and 3G hybrids. My pitching, however, is a very different story altogether as I just can't get to grips with it. More lessons me thinks!

I have two problems. One is my failure to relax when stepping up to the tee, made all the worse by being watched. I've now taken a leaf out of John Daley's book and step up and "Grip 'n' Rip", which is really working for me. My other problem is that I'm a perfectionist and will beat myself up over a poor shot I made 3 holes back!

Anyways, back to reading more of the forum.

Take care,

Grip 'n' Rip.

Wow... I've never seen someone attract so much spam... do you do that to ALL the, uh... ???

Welcome to the forum. I used to play golf with an older gentleman who found golf frustrating, but his study of Karate was how he relaxed. It's interesting to hear you state it in the reverse.

Smile

Thank you all for the warm welcome, including the spammers.

DennisM, it's mainly the running of my two Academies and the on-going seminars and short courses in self protection and self defence I run that cause all the headaches. The actual teaching/training is a great stress reliever.

I'm naturally very competetive and I've promised myself that with golf, enjoyment comes first and the rest can follow, in time. It's not in my nature, but I'm going to try.

Something that I've seen in golf, in the short time that I've played, is the lack of ego on the course. Everyone is nice and passing golfers tip their hat, smile and say something nice, which is very refreshing, especially as they can see I'm a novice.

Take care,

GripnRip.

Welcome to the forum.

Which form(s) of Martial Arts do you study?

I was into Judo pretty hardcore for a while, finished as a Nikyu - Brown Belt.

Fun stuff

Hi Ghost,

Over the years I've studied quite a few arts, but mainly TKD, Muay Thai and Judo.

Here's my Academy website: www.bfmaa.co.uk - Brackley Freestyle Martial Arts Academy

Nikyu is pretty impressive.

Garth.
