Unhappy Hello

Hi All,

I am Sree. New to the Golf and Golf Forum. Glad to meet you all.
I have a question. I am a 35year old software engineer bored with my job. I am seriouly thinking about shifting my career as a Golf Professional. Can any one give me a suggestion what are my chances to be a PGA player(like playing with top guys).

I went through several websites but never got the picture. Can any one provide me a detailed path of how to achieve my dream. FYI I have never touched a golf club in my life.

Thanks
Sree

Well unless you have above average athletic ability, with a whole lot of spare time and money on your hands (Practice Practice Practice) I'd say you have a major task ahead of you. There are literally hundreds of guys on both sides of the ocean trying to break into the PGA ranks and its a real dog eat dog, because theres money to be had if you can reach the dizzying heights. If your going to try I'd say the best of luck to you, your going to need it.

Smile Thank you

65nlovenit,

Thank you very much for the reply!
Can you suggest me school/academy which provide training for my need?
I feel like I am in front of huge jungle without knowing where to start.
Can you give me an idea of where to start?

Thanks
Sree

Weel, I wish you the best of luck! It's good to have a dream! I always heard the easiest way was to win the US Open..not sure if that's true, but i will take a shot at that one day..who knows, maybe I'll see you there!

The two top dogs I'd be looking at, that is if you can get into them, would be Dave Pelz or David Leadbetter, both have several academy's through out the states. We're talking big bucks though.

I hate to burst dream bubbles, but................
If you think you have what it takes to play Pro golf for a living then try this first.
Find and play 16 courses, all measuring 7200 + yards with greens that stimp out around 13. If you can shoot 12 rounds at -4 to 6 then sign up for Q School. The other 4 rounds have better be right around even or maybe +1 to +3 at the highest.
If not, sorry, but do not quit your day job.

People seem to think it is easy to go pro. I know a guy who is a very very good ball striker and a decent amateur. He tried out for the Champions Tour and never had a chance. Off the tee with driver he was equal to the other guys. From 150 in he was not in the same class and that is what killed his chances.

Now when it comes to playing in the US Open, go ahead and try to qualify. Any professional golfer, or any amateur with a USGA men's handicap index of 1.4 or lower, can attempt to qualify for the U.S. Open. You can check the USGA Site for local qualifying sites. BTW that 1.4 index, means you are below a scratch, not above.
GOOD LUCK

I wish you all the luck. I have to admit. I have the same dream but I kind of knew aboutthe huge wall I am against. I guess I was letting that get to me. I do believe it can be done.

dude, he's just starting out.

Go to the golf academy.

Find someone who can help you out if you need it, especially if you don't plan on taking regular lessons after that.

Practice as much as you can/want to.

Work out, if you don't already, and focus on core strength.

Just out of curiousity, what made you want to play pro golf?

And don't ever let anyone tell you you can't do it.

Want to be sports person

Since my childhood I was very much interested in sports. But my father always wanted me to be an Engineer. So I am the one. Eventhough my job my job gets me more money than average American still I have only 10% interest in my field. I believe if it is in sports I can put 100% of my self.
As I have mentioned earlier I am 34years old. At this age only sport I can play is golf(?). Also there is some Tiger affect(Fame & Money).
