Hello,
Just wanted to say hi and give you guys a little information about myself. I started playing golf when I was 11 (34 now) and quickly became hooked. My Dad used to call it "getting the bug". I played golf for my high school team where my senior year I made Second Team All State.
I then went on to play for a small NAIA school in Alabama. I underwent a sort of "Chip Beck/Ian Baker Finch" type meltdown during my sophmore year. This was triggered by my long time instructor suddenly changing his teaching method. It is a very strange thing indeed to go from pretty solid low 70s to not being able to break 90 (full swing yips do exist). I know exactly what Chip and Ian went through. So basically, I quit the golf team after my sophmore year and didn't pick up a club for two years. It was actually nice. Its amazing how many parties and trips to New Orleans you miss when you are playing in tournaments every weekend.
After I graduated I "caught the bug" again, and ended up getting an Assistants job at a small muni track in town. I was there for four years before moving on to a pretty nice Country Club in TN where I finally decided that I really like PLAYING golf, not necessarily WORKING at a golf course.
During my time as an Assistant I probably gave over a thousand lessons and learned a lot about the golf swing, what works, what doesn't, and what people are REALLY doing when they think they are doing something else. I was also a custom fitter for Ping and Titleist (which basically means you went to a one hour seminar and they give you a certificate, weee).
Now that I am no longer in the golf business I have a lot more time to play and practice; weird isn't it. I also have some time to play on here.
Have a nice day.
