born 1977 in midwestern US.

played alot growing up, varsity golf (middle of the pack for 3 years).

i didn't play more than a round or two a year for nearly ten years.

this is my first season back. i devoted my par/birdie energy to disc golf for the interim. got decent, but i just realized recently it was merely a replacement.

handicap? um... i'm keeping rigourous stats (rigirous, rigouris? odd word) and playing most days in some form. i started (keeping track) at ~18 last month. i've been dropping steadily and the new revision is at 13.5.

so i'm a 13.5 handicap (20+ 18-hole rounds).... i have my eyes on par, though. more birdies and less doubles is where i'm at. they're at a standoff, and the putter is leading the charge.

i'm on a steeped golf information learning curve. most of it is mental at this stage for me and i like to read and type.

was there a favorite pro component to the newbie formula? well, i'd say its furyk or choi. both guys are in their prime (furyk slight downswing, choi upswing): only best THAT WEEK beat them. watson was my fav as a kid. not the best, but often the closest.

i have something in common with tiger though. i've missed alot of fairways since i started keeping stats. seems i have little preference for missing right or missing left off the tee. joy. slightly more right misses, but i'm aiming away on alot of left hazards....

i thought it got easier when you got better.?.?...

my major problems on the course? alignment. trying to put a curve on everything without proper visualization. forgetting to adjust stance/ball position for slightly off fairway lies (i mean, its the fairway right? doh!)

i want to break 80 so bad. doubled the 18th for 80 today, my second in a row at that course. guess i'm not ready... i think you have to get used to scoring low before you can. i really believe my current skillset will settle at a high single digit handicap in the next year or so. just gotta get used to those low scores i guess.

three months ago i hit a 7 iron with a decent cavity back club. BACKSTORY: i bought a ~$100 used full set (golfsmith zing knocks, ram putter, Miz MST 9*) in '02 to play a round... my first of clubs was stolen in '97.

so i hit a 7 iron.... i didn't know why that shot was short and left and it made me angry. the 'weapons du jour' are all recent additions. except the putter. thats just an old friend helpin ya move...

don't mind being short-left if i know why. does that make me a 'mid' handicaper? hehe... internet bologna.
