| Just Dropping In What's Up Guys?
I'm new on the block found the site while seeking some varying opinions on equipment.
About Me;
**My name is Adam, the handle is a work nick name that I certainly did not choose for myself.
**I'm 21 years old but please don't remind me, I think I'm a grumpy old man and if you aren't at least 30 years old it's not likely we'll be friends.
**Born and raised in Southern California
**College graduate....employed in the world of law enforcement and I do some writing on the side (published author).
**I'm an "expert" (whatever that means) marine aquarist (how I got published)
About Me (Golf Version);
**I've only been golfing since April of this year
**I don't have a favorite course but I would love to make a trip up north and play Pebble someday soon
**My home course is Los Verdes Golf Course (Yes it's public, and very nice for one at that)
**My biggest issue is consistency, when I'm hot I'm HOT but catch me on a bad day and I'm embarrassed to even own clubs...which me will show up? Your guess is better than mine.
**My best golf attribute is my short game...my weakest point is hitting woods and long irons out of the fairway.
Any questions feel free to ask.
Thanks;
-Adam |

| Well,
First - welcome to the board. 2nd, the "I won't likely be friends with someone who is under thirty" comment won't make you too many friends with those 30 or older because it makes you seem like you're trying too hard to be older....not usually impressive (just trying to kick some helpful science to you).
Other than that, it's always nice to meet another very serious 'expert' aquarist! Do you only focus on Marine aquaria or do you support the freshwater genre of the hobby?? I am very involved in both genres. Were you published in a book or a magazine? I'm assuming a magazine (which in my opinion is much more useful than in a book for this particular hobby). Anyway, look forward to interacting on the board with you. Do you belong to any Aquarists forums (Fish Geek, etc.)?
-Tony

| Sorry I didn't mean it an offensive way, I have a VERY dry sense of humor (comes with the job) and I forget that doesn't come across well in written language at times. The age complex comes from well everything...but mostly the job (which I had to adapt to very quickly and on the run beng the youngest there)....can you tell I'm a work'a'holic? Not that I don't appreciate the advice and I don't mean this in a rude way but that's not why I'm here...I apologize for the missed attempt at humor. I've belonged to a few aquarium forums but I don't have time (in that area of my life) for most of them. I belong to Robert Fenners Wetwebmedia. I answer questions on his expert panel to the public and I write articles for the online magazine and I've been published in the printed text TFH (tropical marine hobbyist). I specialize in marine aquaria (tridacnid clams, temperate lifeforms and elasmobranchs) but I'm not shy about helping out with FW too (I'd love a planted tanks ome day when I have the time). RIght now I am "tankless" just tore out my 170 reef two weeks ago and am in the process of setting up a 300.

| AJ,
Yeah, I love planted tanks. I have 3 up right now ( a reef -mostly inverts, a really exotic planted Tetra and associated species tank, and a cold water temperate SW tank). By the way, TFH is one of my favorite magazines! Congrats. What was the article on? Anyway, what part of California do you live in?

| Thanks Dennis. Platinum I live in the South Bay Area (It's technically LA county). My first article was on nano-marine aquaria, I thought it was very basic and was actually sort of embarrassed it was my first published work lol. Here's the online version over at WWM; NanoReefSysArt

LOL. Well don't get me started about the mentality in Palos Verdes......anyway, I own a home in a very affluent area, and I still can't stand dealing with some of the mentalities of people in PV (not all of them of course, I'm just stereotyping)
BTW, your article on Nano reefs is super! Excellent. I was attempting primitive nano reefs before they were called nano reefs. I even turned a 3 sectional beta tank -4 gallons- into a small reef with an undergravel (custom cut to fit)and a small back filter with mini bio balls, years ago. It was a blast getting the tank to culture and putting my first inverts in to see if they'd sustain (condalactys anemones of course..lol) and it worked prety well. This was about 12 years ago or more.
Again, great article.
