New to golf. Iron suggestions?

I have played a couple of rounds over the years but would like to really take up the sport. I have an old set of ping eye 2's that were passed down to me but the problem is that I'm 6'2" and the clubs are too short. Would it be in my best interest to buy new irons that fit with all the lastest technology or should I see about getting new shafts on the pings?
Also, can I get a club that is better suited for a beginner or would it be a waste of money? Any opinions or club suggestions would be great.

Thanks

New to golf...

The Ping eye 2s are good irons. You can have them reshafted and bent for about $25 a piece for a decent steel shaft.

When you get to learn to hit the irons better, then you may consider moving to the newer models. A lot of golfers are still playing the eye 2s though.

Good luck.

Get them re-shafted, +1/2" to +1".

If you're on a tight budget, look into clones. They usually allow you to specify shaft length. They probably won't last near a long as a brand name club, but will give you a good idea how the real thing hits for when you have the funds.

Look around at local discount sporting goods shops for bargains. Modern drivers have been 'stretching' for decades. Chances are an off-the-rack driver will suit you fine. Same for fairway woods and hybrids.

Look around for used clubs. Tall people trade in, too.

No need to reshaft these irons. You can add exstenstions to the butts of the shafts for a lot less than the cost of reshafting. If the grips are in good condition they can be injected off with grip solvent and reused. The exstensions are cheap.
One issue about reshafting irons. You can put the same brand of shaft, same flex back into those irons and they may not feel the same. Trust me, I know two guys who reshafted PING irons due to broken shafts and neither one felt the same. Both of those guys could not hit that iron as good as they used to.
So if you really want to keep the irons you have look into adding the butt end exstensions.
BTW, I am 6'2" and play normal length irons. I had been playing custom ordered TaylorMade irons that were 1 inch longer. I went back to standard length which I had played for 18 years previous and no problems.
