Hinged Practice clubs (Medicus)

Hey I saw this commercial on TV about these clubs that have a hinge in the shaft so that if you're swing is incorrect, the shaft will "break" at the hinge. It was called the "Medicus". I guess they now have a Medicus driver too. These clubs are for practice purposes only. I was wondering if anyone owns one of these or if anyone knows a lot about these clubs. DO THEY REALLY HELP????

A friend of mine owns the Medicus Driver. Now what it does for him is promote a nice slow take away and a slow change for his downswing. He thinks it helps. You can actually hit the ball with it.

If you use it enough it will help promote a smoother swing.

I tried it, did not like using it.

I have both the iron and driver.

I can hit the iron as far as my conventional 5 iron 150-160 yards.

The iron has improved my confidence with irons up to the 5 iron. I am however more consistent with my 4 hybrid over the conventional 4 and 3 irons. My accuracy with irons has improved significantly - I can now send the ball to where I aim it down to the 5 iron.

As for the driver, I have been using the Medicus driver and my 3W and 5W have become much more consistent. When I hit the driver, I have been hitting straighter but when I get on the course, I prefer the 3W for control. I still can't hit the Medicus Driver as far as the Hibore - right now. The driver feels noticeably heavier than my Hibore so it's like having a Momentus club (ie heavy club).

I do believe that these clubs help for tempo and feedback regarding the swing plane.

If I was to only buy one, which one do you think would be more helpful? Also, is there a huge difference between the dual hinged ones, and the single hinged ones?

The dual hinged was supposed to get rid of 'casting' which I don't do.

My driver is dual hinged and the iron is the original medicus that someone gave me.

Since the irons are used more often than the driver, I would recommend the iron version. If you can afford it, get both.

This training aid has helped me significantly in my track to improvement.

Helped me out

The 5 iron and driver (dual hinged) definitely helped me straighten my swing. I eliminated my nasty slice and have a much more consistent game now. Before I use to get frustrated shooting 84 one day and 94 the next! Now, I've broke 80 three times in a row and know that this year will be a real good one thanks to Medicus.

dual hinge, 5 iron. If you already have a decent swing you may not get much from it, but if you have some excessive action in your swing in the takeaway and/or downswing, it may pick them up and help you correct it.
