| Thanks Capt. (I'd love to hear the story behind THAT screen name!)
Fortunately, it turned out to be an enjoyable experience and didn't cost me too much after getting and reselling iron sets, so I don't look at my current set and resent the cost over time until I found what I truly liked.
I suppose the one club in my bag that I simply can't seem to adjust to, no matter how hard I try, is the lob wedge. I can't for the life of me develop a mindset for the feel of swing that hard and getting that little distance. At 58 degrees, I thought maybe I would do better with it instead of a 60 degree wedge I tried before, but no dice. My 56 degree sand wedge is as far as I'm going to take it and I'll keep hitting my open faced flop and cut shots instead of using a lob wedge.
Other than that, the Callaway X-18 irons have proven to be a good match for me.

| It's 5 months later now. I took my X-18's to Jamaica recently when I visited my son and he fell in love with them. I gave them to him. I went to the Edwin Watts store in North Miami and found a new set, but also looked at some Cleveland CG4 irons. What I like about the Clevelands is the more traditional look of the hosel and that they have a "Tour" model with very little offset. I may ebay the X-18's in favor of a set of those Clevelands. I already tried a Hibore driver and a Launcher driver. I liked both of them. The Cleveland product may be just as comfortable for me as the Callaways.
I don't have any time off from work until around the middle of October, so, has anyone else used these Cleveland clubs? Let me know what you think of the,.
Thanks...

| I looked at the CG4 Tour irons today, (it rained and I left the course early), and while I could only hit them from a mat into a net, they really felt good, better I think than my Callaways. I like the look of them with less offset and a more traditional hosel.
I may have to consider this quickly because they have been discontinued and they only have a few sets. On the other hand, the price has come down to about 1/2 what they were.

| For the money, I couldn't pass up the chance to try the Cleveland CG4 Tour model irons. I got the steel shaft in regular flex and once I change the grips, we'll see what happens. Just clopping a few wedge shots around the school yard down the street, it feels really good. I hope the rest of them do.
This looks a lot more like my old fashioned mind thinks a golf club should look... very little offset, thinner top line, regular hosel and a black ferrule to transition to the shaft. The nice thing is, there is still a pretty deep cavity in back without you seeing the flange of the club at address. The other thing is, regardless that Cleveland says this is a smaller club head than the regular CG4, it sure looks a bit oversized to me.
This may be the best combination of good looks and game improvement I've come across.
