I'm still trying to find which irons I am going to buy, and so far, Wishon is said to be the best golf club maker in the business.
Any comment about their clubs? |
I play Wishon irons, the 550C. I love mine. Bought them used for $225 Canadian, a heck of a deal. True Temper S200 shafts.
They have very little offset, which allows me to hit the ball a bit lower than my old TaylorMade 200 series irons. Soft feel off the club face on a well struck shot.
Due to the lack of offset the lower irons are not exactly game improvement irons. The higher lofted irons are easier to hit, but again they are not game improvement irons. The cavity if not as deep as GI irons.
You will notice in my WITB that I carry the 5-PW. That is because last year I had a heart attack and a double by pass. When I got back to golfing I had to slow my swing speed down due to the chest incision. I was struggling with the long irons, so I bought hybrids. I liked the hybrids so I just kept them in the bag. The thing I miss about the 3-4 irons is I could hit them low into the wind. I can not do that with the TM Mid Rescues. So I have to compromise. After this winter I should be able to go back to my normal swing, so the 3-4 irons might go back in the bag.
Are they well constructed heads? Yes in my opinion they are. Tom Wishon has been designing club heads for years, has worked with PGA Tour members.
Wishon has irons for different levels of skill. So you can decide what you want. You can only buy these from a certified club builder. You will not see the heads on eBay unless someone who owns a set is selling them.
I lucked out when I bought mine. I walked into the golf store, went to look around the used irons and there they were. I knew exactly what they were, who had made them and the quality behind them. For $225 I bought a really nice set of forged irons. I have had them in my bag for 1 1/2 seasons now.
