recomndations

im a 2o year old mid 80's golfer. ive been golfing for one year, with horable $150 starter set of clubs (acquity) lookin to spend about 400 ish give or take a 100 or so, i have no problem getting the ball airborn, sometimes i think its too much of a problem, my balls do baloon a lil bit, i do have experience building clubs, i built a snake eyes driver w/ an irod shaft this winter, so componets are also in the mix, im 6'1" and my swing speed is 105mph give or take a few mph, any help would be great

In that case, just go out and hit various clubs..that's the best way. With your lack of a budget, you can get pretty much whatever you like.

I posted a message just a few days ago similar to yours. I'm looking for clubs in that price range and my scores are also in the 80's. I have found that the Taylor Made rac OS 2 irons are right at $400 most places, and in 100's of reviews I've read over the past couple days, they are highly recommended.

Very forgiving, improved scores, and a nice solid feel to them according to the majority of reviewers.

I'm planning on picking up a set tomorrow with steel shafts. (If you're looking for graphite, they're on sale at golfsmith for only $500) I think at this point in my game I'm looking for more control rather than the extra distance I could gain from graphites.

Good luck in your search.

Dave

Well id recomend you try taylormade and callaway clubs as they are long lasting clubs that feel great or if they are too expensive then id recomend wilson staff or srixon and id go and try them at your local club pro shop as they usually do deals for a member.

The new Nike CCI forged irons are very nice...not sure if they.re 400$ or not though..probably higher..

You can always try Hogan's. I have edge CFTs, and I love em! I know they're under 400. They feel very nice, and spin as much as anythig I've played. They are extremely durable, and look nice at address. There other Hogans now too, like the CFT Pros and such, all are nice clubs.

You can also get Walter Hagen's at Di**'s Sporting Goods for about the price you are looking for. I just did the same as you this last weekend, replaced a beginner's set that I got about 10 years ago.

I just bought a new set, and posted a review of all the clubs I tried here. As it's a long review, I thought I would make it its own entry.

Cheers,
