i just upgraded to callaway x 18 irons steel shaft from my ten yr old x12 irons with graphite shafts. i thought i was going hit the new ones better but ended up struggling. is this normal with such a shaft switch? has anybody had this problem and ended hitting better once you played with them a few rounds to get use to them ?

I went from graphite to steel and just recently bought new R7's with graphite shafts. I found going to steels after using graphites took a bit of getting use to, especailly the weight difference, but going back to graphites was easy, so much lighter.

i was going to go with graphite again but all the pros i talked to were against it for me (32yr old male) . they highly recommended the steel and also said the graphite was mostly for seniors and women who need a lighter shaft, they also said that for some reason the graphite just doesn't flex right.

well i went out to the driving range today and wow what a surprise! these x18 are the best i have ever hit. the ball just went and went and went. the feel of the steel shafts are so solid. now i know i made the right choice of irons and shafts

I guess I'm now one of the old guys. (I won't admit to being a woman.)

I have played steel shafts all my life and just got my first set of graphite shafts recently. I like the difference in feel. As a matter of fact, in my new irons, the graphite feels very soft and the steel was so harsh I wouldn't have chosen them with steel shafts.

The funny thing is, I don't seem to hit one shaft farther than any other.

I just went from some trashy replica clubs with graphite shafts to Titleist 704.cb irons with steel shafts and I'm seeing A LOT of improvement in my game. Confidence in your equipment is key for me. And damn, do the Titleist"s give me that.

Somebody could write a BOOK on that subject and never scratch the surface. I have 2 sets of Cobra irons, one a set of FP's with graphite shafts and one a set od CB Forged irons with steel. I feel a difference, the graphite being softer, but I sure prefer the look of the CB heads when I lay the club down and line it up.
