RANCHO MIRAGE - Major championship winners John Daly, Mark O'Meara and Bob Tway have all been granted sponsor's exemptions to the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic hosted by George Lopez, while Anthony Kim is among the latest golfers to commit to the $5.1 million PGA Tour event in the desert next month.
Daly, O'Meara, Tway and Billy Andrade have received four of the eight sponsor's exemption the tournament can hand out each year.
Daly and O'Meara, both two-time major winners, are also among the latest players to officially commit to the tournament, to be played Jan. 16-20 at four desert courses.
Also new to the Hope commitment list is Anthony Kim, a former La Quinta High School star who finished 60th on the tour's money list with more than $1.5 million in his 2007 rookie season.
Other high-profile names new to the commitment list Thursday are international stars Robert Allenby of Australia and Shigeki Maruyama of Japan. Harrison Frazer, who has three top-10 finishes in the tournament in the last five years, is also committed to the event.
Those golfers join defending champion Charley Hoffman and past champions Mike Weir, Justin Leonard, Joe Durant, Kenny Perry and Steve Jones in the field.
Other top pros committed to the event include Woody Austin, Rich Beem, past Hope winner Mark Brooks, Chris DiMarco, Steve Elkington, Steve Flesch, Carlos Franco, past Hope winner Donnie Hammond, Lee Janzen, Jeff Maggert, Billy Mayfair, Carl Pettersson and Jeff Sluman.
Players have until Jan. 11 to commit to the tournament. |
