Background & Professional Career Bio:
A Texan native, Justin Leonard attended the University of Texas at Austin and won the 1994 NCAA Individual Championship. Leonard won his first major in 1997 (The Open Championship). He currently has ten career wins on the tour, with 1997 Open Championship and 1998 Players Championship being the most prestigious. At the Open, Leonard had a 67 in first round, despite challenging conditions and trailed Jim Furyk and Darren Clarke by only two strokes. He would go on to win by three strokes over Parnevik and Clarke. At age 25, he became the youngest British Open champion since Severiano Ballesteros in 1979. He came close to a second major at the earned second major title at the PGA Championship where he shared a third-round lead with Davis Love III after course-record 65 was seven strokes ahead, yet ended play with a 71 that left him five strokes behind Love. Leonard also was part of the Ryder Cup team in 1997 and 1999. He is currently ranked 35th in the Official World of Golf Rankings. Leonard is married and has two daughters.
