Background:
Karen Stupples, like other British professional golfing hopefuls (both men and women), sought out a golf scholarship at an American university. At Florida State, her win record earned her a Second-Team All-American title in 1995, and she turned professional after the U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship in 1998. Stupples enjoys life outside of golf by cooking, watching movies and is an avid football fan.
Professional Career Bio:
In 1998 and 1999, Stupples career saw her work hard to keep her LPGA exempt status. Between 2000 and 2003, she improved to achieve 7 top tens. Her first career victory came at the Welch’s /Fry’s Championship in 2004 with a career low 63 in both the first and last rounds. This set an LPGA record for a lowest four-day raw score at 22 under par. The same year, she won the Women’s British Open and became the second player in history to register a double-eagle at an LPGA major. This had her finishing sixth in the money list and crossing the $1 million money mark. In 2005, Stupples played for England on at the Women’s World Cup of Golf (Solheim Cup). She is a member of Royal Cinque Ports Golf Club in her native county of Kent.
