Karrie Webb Golf Profile

Birthdate: December 21, 1974
Nationality: Australian
Turned Professional:1996
Current Tour: LPGA

Background:
Webb, a native of Australia, began golfing at 8 years old. She relied on her parents and early coach, Kevin Haller, for influencing her early career. Webb established the Karrie Webb Celebrity Pro-Am to benefit the Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation and was selected to bear the torch for the 2000 Sydney Summer Olympics. She currently resides in Florida, where her off the course hobbies include reading, fishing and basketball.

Professional Career Bio:
Turning pro in 1996 (after her 1995 major win at the British Open), Webb went on to win all five women’s majors – completing what is known as the women’s golf “Super Slam”. Her 1996 season made her the first woman to reach the $1 million earnings mark in a single season and the first rookie in the LPGA and PGA to reach the $1 million mark. It also made her the 2nd winningest rookie behind only Nancy Lopez. In addition, she won the 1997 British Open, prior to its establishment as a major on the women’s tour. Her win at the 2006 Nabisco Championships catapulted her into the top ten of the rankings. She is regarded as the most successful female golfer in Australia and one of the best golfers in the history of women’s golf. She is currently ranked 3rd on the women’s money list, coming in with earnings of $1,197,433. As of early 2006, Webb has won 30 LPGA events (6 majors), has surpassed the $10 million mark in career earnings.

In 2000 she qualified for the World Golf Hall of Fame, but was not eligible until she had played ten LPGA events in ten seasons - which she finally achieved in 2005, becoming the youngest living person to have that honor.
