Ochoa Seeks Five Straight In Tulsa

When Lorena Ochoa, the number one ranked female golfer in the world, steps onto the Cedar Ridge Country Club course for the SemGroup Championship presented by John Q. Hammons, she will be attempting to put her name in the record books once more in her young career. If Ochoa wins the Tulsa LPGA Tour event, she will tie Nancy Lopez and Annika Sorenstam for the most consecutive wins in tournaments participated, with five. Don’t miss Ochoa’s quest for history, May 1 – 4.
“This is a unique opportunity for fans to see a professional golfer in the prime of her career, as she tries to etch her name in the Tour record books,” said Tournament Director Doug Eibling. “We hope fans take notice of this, and come out and support her run at history and the other LPGA Tour stars as they try to hold her off on Cedar Ridge, one of the toughest courses on Tour.”
Ochoa will discuss her quest for the record books, thoughts on Cedar Ridge and expectations for the SemGroup Championship in a pre-tournament interview scheduled for Wednesday, April 30 at approximately 1:40 p.m. CST.
Ochoa has had an amazing season to date. She has won her past four events and five of six starts in 2008. She became the fastest player to reach $1 million in a season by doing it in five events. Ochoa became the second-youngest LPGA member to meet the points criteria for the LPGA Tour and World Golf Halls of Fame. However, Hall of Fame qualifying criteria requires an LPGA Tour member to have been active on Tour for 10 years; therefore, Ochoa will become eligible in 2012.
Ochoa has competed in Tulsa three times, and though she has experienced some success, she has been unable to breeze through the Cedar Ridge track like she has done at so many other courses. Her best finish was in 2006 when she made a final round charge to finish 3rd behind Cristie Kerr and Annika Sorenstam, respectively. That year she shot 203 (-10), a score that would have been good enough to win any of the other three years that Cedar Ridge has hosted. Last year, she was unable to recapture that magic and she settled for a T5 finish at 212 (-1). In 2003, Ochoa finished T15 while competing at Tulsa Country Club.

Creamer takes two stroke lead in Tulsa.

Five-time LPGA Tour winner Paula Creamer (70-71-69=210) holds a two-stroke lead at 3-under par at the SemGroup Championship Presented By John Q. Hammons. Creamer started the day at 1-under 141, one shot ahead of Ji Young Oh. She carded four birdies, including birdie putts of 50-feet on hole nine and 40-feet on hole 12, before making two bogies in her final three holes. The final-round leader has now made two bogies in her final three holes in each of the first three rounds.

Creamer has held a final-round lead six times in her career, most recently at the 2007 Mitchell Company LPGA Tournament of Champions where she led by six strokes after three rounds and won by eight. Her other victory with a final-round lead came at the 2005 Evian Masters where she led by seven strokes after three rounds and won by eight.

2006 runner-up Inkster in final group

31-time LPGA Tour winner Juli Inkster shot the low round of the week on Saturday to move into solo second place at the SemGroup Championship Presented by John Q. Hammons. The 2006 SemGroup Championship runner-up fired a 4-under 67 to move to 1-under-par (72-73-67=212) heading into Sunday's final round at Cedar Ridge.

Inkster will tee off at 12:52 p.m. alongside final-round leader and U.S. Solheim Cup team partner Paula Creamer. With a win on Sunday, the 47-year-old Inkster would become the oldest winner in LPGA Tour history (Beth Daniel – 46 years, 8 months, 29 days). Her last victory came at the 2006 Safeway International Presented by Coca-Cola. She lost in a one-hole, sudden-death playoff to Mi Hyun Kim last year in Tulsa.

Ochoa trails by eight shots

Rolex Rankings number one Lorena Ochoa shot even-par 71 on Saturday to move into a tie for sixth place at the SemGroup Championship Presented by John Q. Hammons. The 26-year-old trails third-round leader Paula Creamer by eight shots entering the final round of play at Cedar Ridge Country Club in Broken Arrow, Okla.

Ochoa made birdie on her second hole of the third round, but countered with a bogey on three to remain even for the day. Back-to-back birdies on holes eight and nine pushed her to 2-under on the day, but back-to-back bogies on holes 11 and 12 again knocked her back to even where she remained for the rest of the day.

The LPGA record for largest come-from-behind victory is 10 shots shared by Annika Sorenstam (2001 The Office Depot Hosted by Amy Alcott) and Mickey Wright (1964 Tall City Open). If Ochoa were to come back to win, she would tie the LPGA record for most consecutive wins in tournaments participated with five.

Creamer Wins Semgroup Championship In Playoffcreamer Wins Semgroup Championship In Pl

Paula Creamer claimed her sixth career LPGA Tour victory at the SemGroup Championship presented by John Q. Hammons after defeating Hall of Famer Juli Inkster in a sudden-death playoff. Creamer made birdie on the second hole of the playoff to take home the title.
Creamer posted a two-under-par 282 (70-71-69-72), the highest score in relation to par in the Tournament’s history. She held a two-stroke lead on the final hole of regulation but suffered her fourth straight bogey on the challenging 18th after Inkster (72-73-67-70=282) made a brilliant 18-foot birdie putt. The players each made par as they repeated the 18th as the first playoff hole. They then moved on to the par-4 10th hole, where Creamer stuck a 7-iron to eight feet. After Inkster narrowly missed her birdie putt, Creamer calmly made her own to capture the 2008 title and a $270,000 payday.
“It was something that I grinded out all day long. I was not going to lose this week. I was going to win this golf tournament, and I did in the playoff,” said Creamer. “This is a major type golf course and for sure, definitely these four days it was, that’s for sure.”
It was the second straight week that Creamer had to compete past 72 holes of regulation. Last week, she lost to Annika Sorenstam on the 73rd hole at the Stanford International Pro-Am.
