Colt Knost fired an 8-under-par 64 and grabbed the first-round lead in the Nationwide Tour's Price Cutter Charity Championship. Knost rolled in a 30-foot birdie putt on his closing hole for the 64 and a one-stroke lead over the Tour's leading money winner, Jarrod Lyle (65).

Colt Knost, the reigning U.S. Amateur champion, could have been playing in the British Open this week in England. Knost also would have gotten exemptions into the Masters and the U.S. Open, but the Dallas, Tex., resident decided to turn professional last fall after a stellar amateur career that also included a win at the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Colt Knost admitted he was pretty lucky to shoot a 4-under-par 68 Saturday in the third round of the Price Cutter Charity Championship. Knost, the reigning U.S. Amateur champion from Dallas, has led after each of the first three rounds in the Nationwide Tour's $600,000 event, and finds himself 18 holes away from securing his PGA TOUR card for 2009.
