Two aim to be like Flanagan, advance to TOUR

Colt Knost and Jarrod Lyle will each be looking for their third win of the season and an automatic promotion to the PGA TOUR when they tee it up this week at the Xerox Classic. Last year, Nick Flanagan became the eighth player to earn a three-win promotion to the TOUR when he won the Xerox Classic.

• While the Irondequoit CC is the shortest course (6,720 yards) on the Nationwide Tour, it's no pushover. In fact, it was the fifth hardest course on Tour in 2007, playing to a stroke average of 71.65 (+1.65). Four holes, numbers 13, 7, 4 and 8, were among the 50 hardest holes on Tour last year.

Bowden hopes to match new teacher with new attitude

Ask Craig Bowden about his 2008 season on the Nationwide Tour, and the veteran becomes brutally honest.

"It has been tough, just horrible for me, '' he said of his year of playing frustratingly. "I've been talking to my wife (Bobbi) and my sports psychologist (Deborah Graham) about it. I'm trying to get some positive feedback.''

May grabs first-round lead at rainy Xerox Classic

Bob May birdied the final hole late Thursday for a 6-under-par 64 and a one-stroke lead after the opening round of the Nationwide Tour's Xerox Classic. The 39-year old May finished off a solid round of golf with an easier-than-it-looked up and down at the par-5 ninth hole and sits atop the leaderboard in the $600,000 event at Irondequoit Country Club.

De Jonge increases his lead to three at Xerox Classic

- Brendon de Jonge shot a 3-under-par 67 Saturday and increased his lead at the Nationwide Tour's Xerox Classic. De Jonge's 54-hole total of 12-under 198 is three shots better than rookie Jonathan Fricke (63) and England's Greg Owen (67).

Leading money winner Jarrod Lyle (66) is alone in fourth place, four back of the 28-year-old leader. Alex Prugh (66) and Canada's David Hearn (69) share fifth place, five behind de Jonge, who is searching for his first career win.

For de Jonge, hot streak culminates with Xerox Classic victory

The field in the Xerox Classic should have known by mid-afternoon Saturday, about the time a Houdini from Zimbabwe was turning a sure bogey into an improbable birdie with some serious sleight of hand with a sand wedge.

This was Brendon de Jonge's week. The Xerox Classic was his to lose.

When it's your time, you short-side yourself on the par-4 18th hole in the third round and make a trip-the-light-fantastic 3 instead of the 5 you deserve.
