Maybe what I'm describing has to do with my inexperience, proper set up, aim, or just old age. But have you ever run across a particular hole on a course that when you lined up to tee off, the resulting shot was either left or right of where you wanted it to land. Now this could happen once with any of the above mentioned faux pauxs , but repeatedly, six times out of seven, makes me think that this particular hole falls into that optical illusion category. Your seeing one thing but aiming or lining up on something else. It leads me to wonder about the people who set up the tee boxes, what were they looking at when they put them in.
