Is anyone else watching the IIHF World JR Hockey tournament? I am not sure if it is broadcast in USA or Europe. By the looks of the board ads at the arena that Canada has played their two games at I would tend to say that TSN might be the only network carrying these games.
Too bad, this is great JR Hockey. You get to see many future NHL'ers at this tournament.
Canada is off to a 2-0 start with wins over Sweden and USA.
They are trying to win their third Gold Medal in a row.
The German goalie stood on his head. Hot goalies can win a game for their team, and he won that game. I also think USA took the Germans a little too lightly and maybe figured this would be a walk in the park. Now they know better.
I watch this tournament because 3 players from the London Knights OHL team are over there.
Sam Gagner is playing for Team Canada. Although he is only 17 and this is a tournament for 19 year olds. The experience will do him a world of good. He is currently in second place in the scorer race in the OHL, with 63 points in 29 games, 17G, 46A.
His team mate, Pat Kane is playing for the USA Team. Pat leads the OHL scoring race with 67 points in 32 games with 26G and 41A.
Sergei Kostitsyn is playing for for Belarus. He is a great player, drafted by Montreal. Sergei got off to a slow start this year with the Knights but has surged lately and has 50 points in 31 games. 17G and 33A's.
My brother in law works as the Equipment Manager for the Knights so he knows these players very well.
What I find amazing is the fact that Team USA left Bobby Ryan of the Owen Sound Attack off their lineup this year. Ryan is 11th in scoring in the OHL with 53 points in 34 games. He is a great player, drafted 2nd overall in the 2005 NHL Draft. Why USA left a quality player like this at home is beyond me.
This is good hockey to watch. The players give it 110% every game. As I said you will be watching many future NHL stars if you watch this tournament.
It's not on my local TV stations, but I follow it on the internet.
I bet the only TV network carrying these games in North America will be TSN from Canada.
There just does not seem to be enough interest anywhere else. Shame, great hockey. Last year in Vancouver every big game was sold out in an arena that seats 20,000.
The one the Canadians played in today holds 7500 and most of those seats were empty.
The IIHF would be wise just to keep this event in Canada.
BTW, you can watch it on streaming video on TSN.ca
Thanks for the tip... I usually visit TSN every day too and I didn't know that.
I do love my hockey though, I just wish the rest of America would catch on.
Well you live in HOCKEYTOWN USA so no wonder you love hockey!
TSN interviewed Stevie Y during one of the games. You can bet that within 2 years Stevie will be the GM of the Wings. Nice guy and he was totally loyal to the Wings for his entire career, that just doesn't happen these days.
You're right about Stevie Y... Speaking of the Captain, his retirement ceremony is Jan 2nd so there should be a bunch of stuff about him on the net soon.
I still dream of a TOR vs. DET stanley cup finals

I sure can't see the LEAFS being in the Stanley Cup Final anytime soon Poor drafting, poor trades, and people in Toronto are still dumb enough to fill the ACC every night to watch a losing team.
Not all of us living here in Ontario are LEAFS Fans. Although every LEAFS Fan thinks we should be!
What a game between Canada and USA yesterday morning. Man it doesn't get any better than that. I would love to see a Best of 7 series between those two teams on NHL ice. Put them in Detroit and Toronto and you could sell the barns out!
Good Luck to USA in it's quest for Bronze agains Sweden on Friday.
GO CANADA GO against the Russians for the GOLD!
