Good laptops?

I'm currently saving up to get a laptop, and I was curious if anyone has a reccomendation for one?

Which companies should I avoid and what should I look for?

tell you the honest truth, I got mine at Best Buy (a chain store) and they were great in helping me pick out one - and offer GREAT tech support - you may want to worry about that aspect as well!

I agree, I never got a computer from an online merchant. To me, the quality of the warranty matters very much.

I think it also depends on WHAT you want the laptop for - if you're a gamer, then you want a laptop that's maxed out on the video graphics, not so much if you're just goign to be running excel sheets and MS word...

again, best bet is to talk to a store salesman and keep upwind of the hype!

for the gamers, get a Sager or a Dell XPC.
if your adventurous, get an older Dell like the 9300 and do the gpu upgrade yourself.

It really depends on your needs, the usage, and your price point.

exactly - I have heard that it's best to avoid eBay if only because the computers there are usually so outdated by the time they GET to eBay that you'll be wasting your cash...

My oppinion when it comes to laptops is warranty is key. Desktops are cheap and easy to replace components, laptops are another story.
A shop like Best Buy might be your best bet!

Yes, its cheaper to get a desktop but even cheaper to BUILD one. built computers are usually much better than prebuilt ones, and some you build are even better than alienwares! and of course, much cheaper
