| Will The Fedex Cup Change Anything? Other than among the lesser knowns, do you think Tiger, Ernie, Vijay or Phil would change their schedule and family life to accomodate the new Fedex Cup schedule?
I know a ten million dollar payoff is a lot of money, but I wonder how money motivated these guys really are anymore. I would love to see someone like Tiger stand up and say, "I don't care." Phil is such a family man that he was prepared to walk away from the lead in the U.S. Open if his beeper went off to tell him his wife was going into labor. I don't know anything about Vijay's family life.
If Tiger's first child was about to be born, do you think he would care about a major, much less the money?

| You are right. These guys make so much money now that it is pretty much meaningless. Its like Monopoly money to them. What's 10 million when you are worth 100's of millions and you will never be able to spend it all in you life already.
Look at Jerry Seinfeld or Ted Danson. They were both offered tens of millions of dollars to do one more season but they both passed. It was meaningless by that point.
Yes, I know this was an old post but nobody had answered you yet.

| Much as I hate to say it, John Daly apparently figured out how to spend it. I agree though. The prize is the title, the trophy and I suppose they want it because it's the FIRST time and that probably stands for something. I don't think money comes into it.

| Of course they're not in it for the money anymore. If that's all they wanted, they'd have quit years ago. I'd like to think that they still get some satisfaction from competing at the highest level of the game, which the FedEx Cup might come to represent.

In 50 yrs nobody is going to give a rats patooty who won the FedEx cup in 2007. The FedEx cup probably won't exist by then.
It seems to me that Finchem (sp) is trying to make the PGA Tour like NASCAR where everyone would have to play every week.
He just needs to chill out and let the players play golf. Trying to concoct all of these different "Championships" is quite silly.

| You're right. I don't see the cup becoming more important than the majors anytime soon. That's fine though. At least now there's something semi-important at the end of the season. In every other sport, at every level, the end of the season is the most important part, the real climax of the season. I'd like to see this work out.
