| Charley Hoffman could sneak up on the field in last year's Bob Hope Chrysler Classic. Charley Hoffman didn't give much thought to winning last year's Bob Hope Chrysler Classic until just about the moment when it happened. He won't have that luxury when he returns to Palm Springs, Calif., for the 49th edition, having to defend the title he claimed in a playoff over John Rollins for his first PGA TOUR title. | About Town: Palm Desert This week, the TOUR takes us back to the mainland. But don't be disappointed: Sure, island life was nice, but there's nothing wrong with Southern California. As the golfers take on week three of the 2008 season, they'll be competing in the Bob Hope Classic in Palm Desert, Calif. Complete article |

| Trahan, Gamez share 36-hole lead in Palm Desert PALM DESERT, Calif. (AP) -- D.J. Trahan shot an 8-under 64, and Robert Gamez had a 65 Thursday to tie for the lead after two rounds of the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic.
Trahan began the day with a string of four birdies and had just one bogey to go to 13-under 131 through 36 holes of the 90-hole tournament.
Gamez turned in a bogey-free round. The co-leaders played at La Quinta Country Club, one of four courses used for the first four rounds.
Wind is often is a factor in the Hope and Trahan was happy to score well despite some gusts. complete article |

| Despite some distractions, Trahan looking sharp PALM DESERT, Calif -- Sometimes all those golfers with the initials get confusing. There's J.J., as in Henry, and J.L., as in Lewis. So if you're not familiar with D.J., as in Trahan, that's permissible.
You wonder on occasion if the public knows any pro other than Tiger or Phil.
But it's Donald Roland -- and how that came to be D.J. is another story -- Trahan, who's the man of the moment.
Two-fifths of the way through the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic, your basic 90-hole march through sun, wind and sagebrush, he's tied for the lead with Robert Gamez at 13-under par 131.
And, understandably quite pleased with what has been happening. Complete article |

Daly told tour officials he had a rib injury. Through 54 holes, Daly was tied for 75th at four-under-par 212 after rounds of 71-70-71.
Daly's couldn't make his 9:33 a.m. tee time in the celebrity field at the Classic Club, where he was to play in a group with actors Cheech Marin and Don Cheadle. Classic Club pro Dan Kempton filled in for Daly.

| What Will Phil Do Next? Phil Mickelson kicks off his 2007 debut this week at the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic in Palm Desert, California and everyone is wondering what the 2007 version of Phil will bring to the tour. I personally think he’s over the 2006 U.S. Open meltdown (though the media probably won’t let him forget) and he actually win at least once before the Masters.
Phil’s too good of a player to let what happened last year affect him for very long. He’s a professional golfer and like most professional athletes, they have the ability to compartmentalize (and/or block them completely) failed attempts during clutch moments. However, given the same situation, I’m not sure that Mickelson would take the conservative approach, and I’m not sure that’s all bad. He has to play the way he feels comfortable, and if that means trying to pull of the high-risk shot, then so be it.
Also, I believe Mickelson will be a huge factor at the Masters and I give him slightly better odds than Tiger of winning at Augusta. |

| Trahan wins Hope Classic D.J. Trahan charged from four shots behind with a 7-under 65 Sunday to overtake Justin Leonard and win the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic in Palm Desert, Calif.
Leonard stumbled after the turn and finished with a 72 that left him three shots back in second. One shot behind heading into the final hole, Leonard hit into the water on 18 at the Classic Club and took a bogey 6.
Trahan birdied the last hole to finish the 90-hole tournament at 26-under 334 for his biggest payday, $918,000, and the right to play in this year's Masters.
Fred Funk won the Champions Tour's season-opening MasterCard Championship, birdieing the final two holes for a 7-under 65 and a two-stroke victory over Allen Doyle in Kaupulehu-Kona, Hawaii. . . . | A friend of mine who resides in S.C. was pumped that DJ won this tournament. He was DJ's baseball coach when he played Little League. He told me last year that DJ will win a PGA event and he was right. |
