| The tournament held at the Riviera Country Club is one of the most respected and revered tournaments on the PGA TOUR schedule, attracting many of the best professional players in the world of golf.
Northern Trust is proud to sponsor this historic event, and to join with the PGA TOUR in our commitment to giving back to the communities we serve. Since its inception, the tournament has generated more than $50 million for philanthropic projects and programs within Southern California. |

| Charles Howell III to defend title at Riviera Charles Howell III did something last year that Tiger Woods, his good friend, has never done. And he'll do something next week that Woods has never done – he'll defend a title at Riviera Country Club during the Northern Trust Open, formerly the Nissan Open and Los Angeles Open.
No offense to Howell, the 2007 Nissan Open champion, but Southern California golf fans seem more concerned about whether the guy who has never won at Riviera will show up.
Howell understands. He knows the stage is bigger, the excitement is greater and the galleries are larger when Woods tees it up.
That's why Howell says he also is hoping Woods plays next week, even though it probably reduces his chances of repeating with the world's top-ranked player in the field.
In the meantime, Howell is content to enjoy the temporary bragging rights of having won a tournament at Riviera, one of the rare titles that has eluded Woods since turning professional in 1996. Complete article |

| Tiger Woods: Skips Northern Trust Open Woods will not play in next week's Northern Trust Open, the L.A. Times reports.
Even though it's his hometown tournament, Woods skipped the event last year after playing overseas in Dubai and likely wants the extra rest again this year. He'll likely next play in the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship. |

| Choi Leads Northern Trust Open K.J. Choi has won tournaments hosted by Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods in the last nine months during a steady climb into the Top 10 in the world. Further proof of his staying power came Thursday when he took the early lead at Hogan's Alley.
On a course that has given him fits, Choi played bogey-free in breezy conditions for a 6-under-par 65 and a one-shot lead over Kevin Na in the Northern Trust Open in Los Angeles.
"This course, I've always had trouble putting and my iron shots have always been a problem," Choi said. "But I felt like they were working today, and I think even the weather was pretty pleasant when I played. So it all worked out good." Complete article |

| Mickelson takes charge with 64 at Riviera PACIFIC PALISADES, California (Reuters) - Phil Mickelson, making the most of a favourable draw, took control of the Northern Trust Open by grabbing a four-shot lead in the second round on Friday.
The American world number two, fortunate to be among the day's late starters in relatively benign conditions, fired a sparkling seven-under-par 64 to put himself in position to win his first title at Riviera Country Club.
Mickelson, seeking his 33rd PGA Tour victory, rattled up two bogeys and nine birdies, the last a 20-footer on the 18th green in glorious late afternoon sunshine. complete article |

| Mickelson holds Northern Trust Open lead LOS ANGELES—Phil Mickelson learned as junior golfer to never underestimate anyone, no matter the size of his lead or the pedigree of his opponent.
And while the odds of Lefty finally winning in L.A. looked good as ever Saturday at the Northern Trust, where he shot a 1-under 70 for a one-shot lead over Jeff Quinney, two holes showed how much work remains to add Riviera to his West Coast collection of trophies.
One came at the fabled par-3 sixth, where Quinney hit a 7-iron that he thought was headed for the bunker in the middle of the green, only to land just to the right and roll back into the cup for an ace. The other came at the end of the third round when Quinney holed a 35-foot birdie putt to close the margin to one stroke.
"If the guy is good enough to be in the last group, he's obviously playing well enough to win," Mickelson said. "I know that I won't be handed anything tomorrow. I know how well Jeff is playing. And I know that there are guys that are right there and can shoot a low round tomorrow. It's my job to go out and hit solid shots." Complete article |

| Solid play is just what doctor ordered for McCarron PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. -- For the better part of the last 18 months, Scott McCarron was content to be Mr. Mom back home in Reno.
He cooked breakfast in the mornings. He shuttled his two daughters to school and acting classes. He even coached their soccer team. What McCarron didn't do, though, was play golf.
The three-time PGA TOUR champion missed nearly 18 months of competition after having surgery in August of 2006 to reattach the radialis brevis tendon on his right elbow. It was nearly a year to the day before he could hit balls without pain.
McCarron is feeling much better, though, after Friday's 65 left him five shots behind Phil Mickelson at the midway point of the Northern Trust Open. He's tied for fourth at 5 under with Chad Campbell, Scott Verplank, Vaughn Taylor and Billy Mayfair.
It was McCarron's lowest round since he posted back-to-back 65s on the weekend at the FBR Open -- way back in 2005. And it came on one of the UCLA grad's absolute favorite golf courses in Riviera Country Club.
"I really have no business being in the hunt or near the lead, but I feel good coming in here," McCarron said. "I just love this place and ... lo and behold, I played pretty good today." Complete article |

| Wow have you seen Phil? He looks great. He looks like he must have lost 15 pounds! This looks promising for the coming year.
At the moment he is in the lead.
