| Nationwide Tour set for first stateside tournament of 2008 BROUSSARD, La. -- The Nationwide Tour resumes play on U.S. soil this week at the Chitimacha Louisiana Open presented by Dynamic Industries after starting the season with a four-event international swing. The golf spotlight will be on the Bayou state with the PGA TOUR hosting the Zurich Classic of New Orleans 130 miles away.
The venue for the Chitimacha Louisiana Open is Le Triomphe Country Club near Lafayette. The par-71, 7,006 yard layout has hosted the event every year since its inception in 1992.
Through the first four events of the Nationwide Tour's 30-tournament schedule, two Australians and a pair Americans claimed the four titles and currently hold down the top four spots on the money list. Aussies Jarrod Lyle (No. 1 on the money list) and Ewan Porter (No. 2) won the Mexico Open presented by Corona and the Moonah Classic, respectively, while Scott Dunlap (No. 4) and Darron Stiles (No. 3) captured the Panama Movistar Championship and the HSBC New Zealand PGA Championship. All but Lyle will be in the Louisiana field. Complete article |

| Kendall readies for unlikely defense of Chitimacha title Forget a needle. Given the 18-plus years of existence of the Nationwide Tour, someone likely would have found it while rummaging through the circuit's proverbial haystack as time went by.
No, what we're looking for apparently is much more miniscule -- a grain of sand anyone? See the thing is, it remains hidden among the million upon million strands of straw.
What the Nationwide Tour continues to search high and low for is a proper title defense, something that has yet to occur despite the fact that there almost 400 chances to repeat since 1991, the TOUR's second year in existence. Complete article |

| Riley stretches lead to three at halfway in Louisiana BROUSSARD, La. -- Chris Riley recorded a 3-under-par 68 on Friday to increase his lead at the Nationwide Tour's Chitimacha Louisiana Open presented by Dynamic Industries.
Riley, the winner of the 2002 Reno-Tahoe Open, moved to 9-under 133 and three strokes clear of Gavin Coles (66) and Scott Dunlap (68). The three-stroke margin equals the largest 36-hole lead at the 17-year event, set on three occasions and most recently by John Wilson in 1998.
"I feel good," said Riley, who missed just one of 13 fairways and connected on 13 of 18 greens in regulation. "I played pretty solid again today." Complete article |

| Two late birdies boost Coles into one-shot lead BROUSSARD, La. -- Gavin Coles birdied the final two holes on Saturday to pass Chris Riley and take over the top spot on the leaderboard through three rounds of the Nationwide Tour's Chitimacha Louisiana Open presented by Dynamic Industries.
Riley (70) entered the day with a three-stroke cushion -- equaling the largest in tournament history in Lafayette -- and appeared poised to hold that lead until Coles (66) birdied the final two holes to move into solo possession of the lead at 11-under-par 202. Riley will enter the final 18 holes one shot back, while B.J. Staten -- who fashioned the round of the day with an 8-under 63 -- will be two strokes behind.
"I played really nicely today apart from two holes," said Coles, speaking of his only bogeys at the ninth and 13th holes. "The great scores this morning set the precedent for what I had to do this afternoon."
Coles, a 39-year-old Australian, is no stranger to the top spot on the leaderboard in Nationwide Tour events, having won three times and most recently at the 2006 Legend Financial Group Classic. Sunday will mark just the second time he has held the lead going into the final round. The first led to a victory at the 2002 Jacob's Creek Open Championship. Complete article |

| Coles pars his way to fourth Nationwide Tour win BROUSSARD, La. -- For the fourth time in his career, Gavin Coles claimed top honors on the Nationwide Tour with his win Sunday at the $525,000 Chitimacha Louisiana Open presented by Dynamic Industries.
Coles, a 39-year-old native of New South Wales, Australia, entered the day with a one-stroke lead and then withstood a charge from several current PGA TOUR members to capture the Tour's first domestic event of the season. A 1-under 70 moved Coles to 12-under 272, good enough to clip a pair of 2007 Nationwide Tour graduates -- Kyle Thompson (65) by one stroke and Michael Letzig (64) by two shots. Letzig was joined in a tie for third place by Brendon de Jonge (67) and Greg Owen (68).
"It was tough out there," said Coles. "You've got to control your golf ball when it's firm and fast like this ... and that's the way I like it."
A 15th-place finish at last week's Puerto Rico Open had Coles brimming with confidence this week at the par-71 Le Triomphe Country Club.
"I have been playing well, so I knew it was just a matter of time," said Coles. "I feel like I'm hitting it as well as I ever have. I'm enjoying this journey I'm on." Complete article |
