Blasberg leads Corning Classic

Erica Blasberg fired a seven-under 65 on Thursday to take the first-round lead of the LPGA Corning Classic at a windy and cold Corning Country Club.

Na On Min and Karine Icher are knotted in second place at five-under 67.

Sherri Turner, Na Yeon Choi, Sandra Gal and Jimin Kang share fourth place at minus-four.

This week could see the fifth different winner this season on the LPGA Tour.

Lorena Ochoa, who owns six wins already this year, Annika Sorenstam, a three- time champion in 2008, the unlikely Louise Friberg and Paula Creamer are the only players to visit the winner's circle this year.

Creamer is the only champion this season in the field. She shot a two-under 70 and is tied for 15th place, only five off Blasberg's lead.

Blasberg parred her first three holes, then broke into red figures with a tap- in birdie at the fourth. At the next hole, the par-five fifth, Blasberg drove into the trees, but left herself with 10 feet for birdie. She converted that and made it three in a row with a three-footer at No. 6.

Jang, Blasberg share Corning Classic lead

Jeong Jang shot a three-under 69 and Erica Blasberg had a two-under 70 on Saturday to share the lead after three rounds of the Corning Classic.

The duo were knotted at seven-under 209 heading into the final round of a tournament missing the top-three ranked players in women's golf: Lorena Ochoa, Annika Sorenstam and Suzann Pettersen.

Jang and Blasberg held a one-shot lead on Katherine Hull (68) and Leta Lindley (70), who were knotted at six-under 210. Song Hee Kim (70) was alone at five- under 211, with five players tied another shot further back at 212.

Erica Blasberg thrives in cold to lead LPGA Corning Classic

CORNING, N.Y. - Nothing slowed Erica Blasberg, not even all the layers she was wearing at the start of the LPGA Corning Classic. Blasberg shot a 7-under 65 on Thursday, a raw day more like early March than late May, to take a two-shot lead over Na On Min of South Korea and Karine Icher of France after the first round.

Lindley wins Corning Classic with birdie on first playoff hole

Leta Lindley got a winning birdie on the first hole of a playoff with Jeong Jang on Sunday in the LPGA Corning Classic in Corning, N.Y., her first victory in her 295th professional start on tour.

"I am just so overwhelmed," said Lindley, who took two years off to give birth to her two children. "I’ve been dreaming about this day forever."

Jang and Lindley, with her husband caddying and her young son and daughter watching on television, began the final hole of regulation tied at 11 under. Lindley, in the group ahead of Jang, made a two-putt par to put pressure on Jang.
