At big BMW PGA Championship, Rose looks to restart his season

Justin Rose hopes some home comforts will help kickstart his season.

Last year's European Tour Order of Merit winner is back in England this week for the big BMW PGA Championship, the flagship event on the European Tour, at Wentworth.

The tournament, the largest on the European Tour outside the British Open, will be the 27-year-old Englishman's first in Europe this year and he hopes the return to familiar surroundings will help him rediscover his best.

"I have been in America for five months now," Rose said. "Coming back to England is a real opportunity to recharge my batteries sometimes, to catch up with friends.

"Just doing English things -- watching a bit of football, a pint down the pub, bacon sandwich, going for a curry. Just getting back into the English lifestyle, it's good," he added. "Last year Wentworth was a key week for me in terms of a platform for a good year, so I am hoping it will, again, be a good tournament for me to get some form going."

Vijay Singh withdraws from BMW PGA Championship with muscle injury

Vijay Singh withdrew from the BMW PGA Championship before it began Thursday because of a muscle injury.

The former top-ranked player injured a muscle below his ribs on his left side. He said it happened after he arrived Monday.

"Perhaps I started hitting balls a little cold after the long trip, or didn't warm up properly," Singh said. "Coming off the flight I was fine and I was excited about playing."

Singh, who tied for third last year, said he has had a lot of treatment to overcome the injury.

"Every day I had ice and then heat and I thought I was actually getting better," he said. "I had ultrasound treatment on it, too. Whatever they could do for me I had."

He said he still hoped to play when he went to the range Thursday morning ahead of his afternoon tee time.

McGinley at BMW PGA Championship

Robert Karlsson shot a 2-under 70 in windy conditions to take a four-stroke lead after the third round of the BMW PGA Championship on Saturday.

Karlsson was tied for second four shots behind Paul McGinley overnight, but finished the third round leading Miguel-Angel Jimenez (72) and Oliver Wilson (73) by four shots.

McGinley, who shot a record 65-66 over the first 36 holes, finished with 79 to drop to a share of fourth place with Jyoti Randhawa (69) and Daniel Vancsik (72). They are five strokes behind Karlsson.

Rain and wind are scheduled for Sunday's final round over the West Course at Wentworth.

Spain's Jimenez wins BMW PGA Championships

Miguel-Angel Jimenez of Spain won the 600,000-pound (754,000-euro) BMW PGA Championships here on Sunday after a play-off against Oliver Wilson of England.

The 44-year old won the second play-off hole, after holing a two foot putt to secure a birdie four, against Wilson's par five.

Both players shot 68 to finish as joint leaders on 11 under par, after a nerve-wracking final afternoon, when the lead changed hands on several occasions.

But the drama continued into the play-off, as the advantage swung first to Jimenez and then to Wilson on the first extra hole, the par five 18th.

Despite reaching the green in two, with Wilson languishing in a greenside bunker, Jimenez could only manage a five, leaving 27-year-old Wilson with a 10-foot putt to win.

But his effort slid out of the hole and the pair headed back to the 18th tee to try again.

Second time around, Jimenez again held the upper hand after his second shot found the heart of the 18th green in two, with Wilson on the green in three.
